Cruising range versus gas gauge

So my wife was rear ended a few months ago and the T4R was fixed but we think something is wrong with the gas tank sending unit. The gauge fills up but the "cruising range" doesn't update until we put the 4R in drive and then move a few seconds. Can someone verify on their next fill up that this is normal or not normal? Mine does the same. Truck need to go a few feet until the range resets.

Wow thanks guys. It was just crazy to me. This is my first Toyota and I've only had Chevy's all my 25 years of driving and never had one do like that. So I was just worried it was something from the accident.
