CS144 Alternator + Big 3 Wiring Upgrade

Probably need to go to a smaller pulley. Not spinning enough at idle. You can also upgrade the regulator to a set charging point. I can give you more info after I get off work. I did the same, smaller pulley and higher set point regulator (I have an agm) works at idle and when hot 14.8 cold and 14.3 hot.

Here is the site I use for my cs144 parts:

Quick start

Thanks, much appreciated! When I had said mostly but not all the time, just by chance this morning it's totally fine. I did the same exact test in the parking lot as I did yesterday and today I didn't notice any dips in voltage at all, nor at red lights in gear, it was acting totally normal. Anyway, below is a video of today's test. Awaiting more info regarding smaller pulley and regulator.

Since this post was revived, ill add my updated experiances.

Ive had my cs144 for about 9 years now. I ordered the ac delco off amazon and installed. Its mostly overkill since even when I had dual batteries I never saw more than 60 amps going into the batteries. Maybe if I had a bunch of accessaries I could use the extra power.

In 2019 I started having issues and notice the volatge was low and not charging. after investigating the bolt/stud going into the alternator where the cable connects to it was loose. Turns out the nut unside the alternator backed out and fell off. I was able to ziptie the stud inplace to charge but later removed the alternator and opened it up to re tighten the nut and lock tight it all.

Its been solid since but something to think about.

That's a good point. I would check that too and grounds too. When I got my cs144 from the junkyard I rebuild it to be a 200a high output alt. Once installed I noticed it wasn't charging at warm idle. Blip the throttle a bit and it would charge.

As for the pulley I used a 48mm at idle the alt shafts rpm is around 2300.

As for rhe 14.8v set point regulator I used this one Regulator. If you change it out, the connectors on the voltage regulator are soldered on. I would only use it if you have an agm battery, don't use it on a flooded type battery as the voltage would be way to high. Cold charges at 14.8v hot at 14.4v.

How have you all found the cs144 holds up to the abuse/workload of being used off road? is it as simple as make sure the mud is washed off and it's good?
