Cup Holder Light

The cupholder lights are definitely a plus and not a gimmick to me.

The frustrating thing about my 2007 Limited is that the door lock button isn't lit so if someone is standing the in the dark trying to get in, I have to fumble around feeling for the door lock.

Also, the garage door opener buttons aren't lit. How can you go to the expense of putting in a garage door opening system and not light it???

All buttons should be lit in a vehicle when the lights are on.

I think we can agree that Toyota screwed up with the lack of switch lights... this ain't no base model economy car, it's a mid-range SUV for gawd's sake. A Ford Focus probably has better lighting.

Yeah, i can barely see the light on my Auto driver's side button. I wonder if that bulb can be changed to something brighter?

Toyota knows how to light up stuff that needs lit.My 06 Tundra had door switches and homelink lit.......BEANCOUNTERS!!

I've always wondered why lights are needed in the cupholders. Seems kinda pointless and also seems kinda stupid that we get lights in the cupholders but no lights on the power window switches (except one). Strange priorities.

Nah, the cup holder lights are actually a nice touch - IF - like me, you typically use plastic drink bottles instead of chipboard (fast food) or opaque plastic cups. They actually shine through 20 oz drink bottles nicely and aid in getting them back into the holders in relative darkness without much "looking down". If all you use in them are opaque (non-transparent) fluid holders, then yes, I can see where they wouldn't be a big deal to you.

As for the "lack" of lights on the window switches - that's understandable in the current 4Runner given where they are so far down on the door panel - you don't want to be looking that far down while driving anyway. Besides, it has become common fare in most makes to only light the switches with the auto-down feature and leave the rest alone. They're laid out logically anyway, the lack of lighting isn't an issue. Their placement so far down the door in the 4R is a bit weird though. With interior handles of that design, they should have put them on the console IMO.

As for the poster that said they run their dash lights at "full bright", be advised you are robbing yourself of full night vision by doing so. Bright dash lights cause your pupils to dilate - and limits your ability to see in great detail outside the cab where it is dark - IOW, it hampers your "night vision". Just FYI. I've been a "dashboard dimmer" since I got my first DL some 24 years ago. Dim them to where you can still just see what you need to see in the car...and your surroundings outside the car will be clearer and otherwise easier to "see". My opinion must be shared by most car makers, or dimmable dash lights would not be an option (actually, standard equipment on most all cars and trucks today)

Interesting this thread got brought back up, because I actually was driving the other day and noticed that the lights were on! I was pleasantly surprised, until I turned down the dimmer, and when I turned it back up again, once more no more light.

So, now I am sure it is some sort of electrical issue. I took off t he covering and checked the connection, but couldn't see any issues. The rear wiper and window stopped working randomly the day before, and even after making sure the window was all the way up, it still wouldn't work. Walked out to the car an hour later, tried it again, and it worked. My conclusion is that the truck is possessed, but that's just me.

Basically, as long as the only thing not working is the cupholder lights, my complete lack of knowledge on anything electrical keeps me from looking too far into this, unless anyone has any great advice.

I don't have the part number but you can call the stealership and they'll give it to you pretty quick. But if you want to replace the bulb with something better it's a 74 led bulb. May seem like a tight fit but you can just shove it in and it'll last a lot longer. If you're set on the orange, just get an amber led. :biggrin1:

That's what I do also, been doing it for years and yes it does work.

Cup holder LED

Has anyone done a LED swap on this bulb? It is a Incandescent and attached to a harness...There a way around that and make it a LED instead ?

It's a straight forward plug in bulb.
I simply replaced it with a plug in super bright daylight LED.
Easy and looks great
