Cup Holder Mod?

Well I don't think I'm in the minority when I say that I can't stand the cup holders in my 2nd gen. I'm looking into cutting one in somewhere. Just wondering if anyone has attempted to do this in a 2nd gen. Pics would be greatly appreciated.

What is it that you don't like about them?

-Location? (blocks HVAC control when in use)
-Size? (I have 1 liter bottles of water that don't fit, but I really didn't expect them to)

I'm drawing up a little cup holder idea that is placed behind the shifter, just above the cubby before the armrest. It will hook into the armrest base and the hooks will stay secured as long as the armrest cover is closed. It'll be able to hold a 40. :)

It's jimmy rigged but effective. I went to walmart and bought one of those plastic ones that hook onto a door. Made a wedge shaped piece out of plastic (wood would work well), screwed the wedge to the front part of the center arm rest and then the cup holder to it. Cut off the hook part of the holder.

The nice part is when you are driving, it's placement is near perfect. I kept it high enough to be able to use the cubbie underneath.

Here's a pic.

That looks pretty clean. I will have to give it a try this weekend. Thanks for the picture.
