Custom Rag top / soft top

1st gen 4runner custom Rag top / soft top

I recently decided to build my own soft top for my 1st gen 4runner, but it eventually just turned into a rag top with removable roof and windows.
I was able to buy the top for $20 because the glass was busted out, and then cut out the roof area where the head liner originally was. The window frames were then removed and the gutters cut off. I added some fiberglass to round out the window openings for a better armrest and slapped a couple of coats of paint on it.
The roof is made from Sunbrella Marine grade waterproof canvas and the windows are 40 gauge clear vinyl.
Both are held on with scotch permanent double sided tape (4011-LONG) to the body and sewn with 100% polyester UV resistant thread to the vinyl and canvas.
I also used turn button fasteners (the kind you see on boats) to lock the canvas on top in the corners. The top and windows stay nice and tight and there is no flapping while cruising 70 down the freeway.
They can be removed and reinstalled in 30 seconds and are great for the kids in back.
Altogether I am probably about $150 to $200 into it and a one-off soft top.

P.S. Sewing vinyl and canvas is kind of a PITA

I live in western Washington, and it doesn't rain here, so I'm not sure if its waterproof.
It's only been on for the last month and it hasn't rained while I'm out. I would guess that it is probably pretty water tight but might drip a little. I might have to spray it down with the sprinkler but it be a couple of weeks until I do that, I haven't finished the rear side windows yet.
