Cutting out the fuel filter

The attachments for my fuel filter have been stripped badly. Am I crazy to think its feasible to just cut it out? And replace it with a plastic filter and rubber fuel line to fit it in?

Fuel filters that have threaded fittings have them because EFI engines require higher fuel pressure and old style hose clamps may not stand up to it.
But you could try it.

I recently did this and it worked great. Its only be a couple thousand km's but its still holding great no leaks. I used injector hose and injector clamps (both of which are designed for efi fuel lines). If you want pictures let me know.

I bought barbed air fittings and screwed one in on each end of the stock filter and connected it right in line with high pressure hose. Has worked great for two years now and two filters.

I did some side work for my sons soccer coach. Truck(88 t4r) had been sitting for a while rusted the tank out bad, flushed the line from pass wheel well area.

Also obviously took the filter loose line fitting was so tight it flared the flare nut threads out so wide. I'm guessing over torqued from factory factory toy filter.
New filter would not thread evan close, I took the line loose off the frame already had tank out. On 3.0 which this was had to pull the t case crossmember.

Re flared the line with a new flare but fitting.
I think that hose clamp stuff is a good fix for trail repairs, Evan though lots of manufactures use hose clamps on efi stuff.
