CV axle boot clamps

While rebooting one of my axles I managed to mangle up the smaller outer boot clamp really badly. Tried to use some dorman product from autozone which was completely garbage and couldn't ever get it tight. Eventually went with a worm gear clamp style to hold on to it for the time being.

I've noticed people are selling these :

Should I just buy a pack straight from mcmaster carr? McMaster-Carr

They seem to be made for soft rubber because (of the edges not being sharp) and people seem to have good experiences with them.

If so what size do I need for the smaller outer clamp?

I'm up to other suggestions as well.

I just used stainless steel ones from west marine.

Yeah I was in the same boat a couple years ago. I bought them from McMaster carr and I've had no cv boot grease leak out since, and the back of them are smooth so it wont damage the rubber. Best part is you can tighten them with either a small socket or a screwdriver. No messing around with the little straps and clips to bend back. I have the part numbers saved if you want them.

I think I know which ones but please do post the part numbers! It appears the worm gear clamp on the inside is holding but the bigger one I guess I didn't crimp on hard enough because it is leaking just an ever so small amount of grease, this needs to get fixed though!

I used these universal ones from Moog (recommended by Tim in one of his videos)

You will need clamp pliers but they worked great for me and allow you to make any size. Also useful for steering rack boots.

I managed to get this resolved with the same style of clamps mentioned through mcmaster-carr. They are amazing and fit right on the boot without any problems. There's only a little bit of clearance for the outside bigger clamp but it doesn't appear to be a problem.

Good to hear! You can always trim the excess off that's what I ended up doing for the outside one. Better to have a little extra then not enough! These were the only thing I could get to work that actually kept grease from slinging out of the boots. The clamps work but its tough to cinch them up when things are cold/wet/covered in grease. The worm clamps just fit perfectly in the channel and don't leak and theirs no tabs to bend back or special tool to be had. Glad to hear it worked out for the best!
