CV axle concern

So I recently replaced my axels with Cardone axles from rock auto. The front tires are unable to rotate when I have the front end off the ground. I have read that this is an issue with Cardone axles. When the car is on the ground it drives normally unless I am on the gas too hard, which lifts the front up and causes chattering.

How urgent is it that I replace them with OEM CVs? am I causing any damage to other components?

I'm talking to CVJ but the college budget won't allow new ones for a little while.

I've never heard of this. But my initial thought is that your biggest risk here is limited to the CVs themselves.

I'm not sure of what it will hurt but you do not want that axle shaft to blow out or break. I think the general description there would be grenading the front end. Are you absolutely sure it is the cv shaft making the wheel not turn? These 4th gens have issues with calipers that will keep your wheel from turning.

I've seen it. Stuck caliper doesn't care about suspension movement.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you wheel a lot. While you can't turn the wheel by hand at full droop, the engine will have little trouble. The CVs are going to fail early, but you already know you need to replace them anyway.

I know it's not the calipers because it turns 1/4 turn before it won't turn anymore. Maybe I'm due for a diff drop but I remember reading somewhere that they are more trouble than they do good.

This is very common with aftermarket axles. Never use aftermarket axles on toyotas . if it doesn't actually catastrophically fail. It will make noise and or shred the boots. I've seen them not even make it out of the shop before. CVJ axles are very reasonably priced and they will ONLY rebuild the OE axles.

Tldr: your bad OEM axle is better than a new cardone or other aftermarket shaft

Thank you. I am planning on ordering from CVJ. I don't have my OEM ones anymore so I won't get the core charge back :/ oh well.
