Are cv axles side specific?
Need to replace one. but unsure if driver side and passenger side are interchangeable

Thanks

Last times I did CVs I disconnected the TRE and LBJ from the knuckle. I heard someone say you can do this just by undoing the TRE and turning the knuckle. Might give that a shot in the chance that it'll save you some time.

Would be curious if anyone can confirm this. I've always loosened the LBJ, but IMO the less I have to touch those LBJ bolts the better.

I always disconnect the lower balljoint when removing CVs. It's necessary to pull the knuckle out enough so the spindle of the CV axle can clear the hub.

Nope, never have had to remove the LBJ bolt. Probably have removed the CVs 5 to 10x (use Oreliys which aren't bad but the boots crack) in 13 years of ownership.

If you do remove the LBJ (I do, but not necessary) why would you take the extra time of removing the 4 bolts with locktite on them when you could just simply remove the 27mm bolt on the bottom of the ball stud?

Well for those in rust free areas such as myself I find the easier access of the 27mm to be easiest. Results may vary, however.

I agree. Never removed anything. Just the tire and than the cv

I find this interesting. Obviously there is enough movement in that inner CV joint to manipulate it out of the differential and out of the hub. Good to know.

Thanks all
Got it done this morning.. it was just as easy as the rest of the suspension work on this truck
Timmys video helped alot
Thanks again

One should be able to swing the knuckle, caliper and all far enough to the side to get the work done with ease with just removing the four bolts. The less I have to mess with the LBJs the better off I am.

I just rebooted my OEM axle (Thanks Timmay!). Taking off the tie rod and lower ball joint is quite Easy and I would highly recommend it. It's two castle nuts. Take the time, you'll be glad you did
