CV Axle replacement

Hey guys, I tried posting in the 4th Gen forum, but got no responses. I have an 05 4x4 with 150k miles and torn CV boots on driver and passenger sides.

I want to try and replace the CV axles on my own and would like some recommendations regarding brands/sources for the replacement axles other than the dealer.

I don't offroad and have stock suspension, though I plan to put in the FJ Trail Teams suspension I have laying around at some point (won't add spacers or anything like that).

I haven't heard anything good about replacement axles from autozone/pepboys/advance. If you've replaced your axles, can you please share what replacements you went with and how well they have held up?

I purchase most of my replacement parts from rockauto.com they have the best prices and also allow you to purchase new cv axles without a core charge to send yours back.

I purchased the cardon brand last time and they have held up fine; however, the boot clamps on them are cheesy and could be replaced pre install to make sure they don't leak.

also after you get your old ones out you have the ability to take them to a driveline shop and have them rebuilt, They will machine the threads and splines as well as refurbish the knuckles and housings to basically a new cv axle. Then you have a back up set at all times. never a bad thing.

Bought a pair of OEM remans recently for Autozone. Seem OK so far, need a little more time to tell. Big thing is the price is good and they're OEM shafts. I'd rather replace these than tear down a boot.

How do you know they are toyota oem remans?

They're sold stated as such. Axles themselves are definitely used, but cleaned up. All dimensions match up, machining looked the same. Only thing new about it is the boot and joints.
