CV axles.....

So my passenger side CV axle broke a boot (after only 256k miles!) i've never successfully replaced a CV boot (since i've never been able to separate the joint under the boot) so the question is, should i just replace with a NAPA lifetime axle?

I've got a NAPA lifetimer on the driver side, been on there for ~6 years (~20k miles) with no troubles....

or is there a better brand out there? (not the 499$ kind) a reasonably priced better than the NAPA brand out there?

thanks gents!

You will be fine with them. Only other thing I can say is find some OE ones in a junk yard and rebuild them/reboot them etc.

i run the napa ones, have had great luck with them, even with having had two different gear ratios - 4:10f 4:30r... made several wheeling trips with that set up and never had a failure. im not recommending running two different gear ratios, but saying that even with that extra stress they held up just fine. i break boots before i break the axles typically. i now have 4 full sets of them for spares that i have collected over time.

i have put some hard wheeling on them, did you see the video of my rig and run on sunday? they held up fine to that abuse

how did you end up with 2 different ratios!? regear gone wrong? probablu should look into getting that fixed that isnt just hard on cv's it will tear up the rest of the drive train pretty quick too. Id hate to see that beautiful truck of yours all jacked up because of something like the wrong gears!!!!!! :ohwell:

yeah ive got some new axles from oreilyes and they have been good for the past 2,000 miles. i still have my original 200K mile axles sitting on the floor 3 ft from me with new boots sitting on top of them to be done. :ranger:

well NAPA sounds enough then! i'm not as hard on them as 'The Kid' is, but I've read some scary stories on here about broken pieces off in differentials.... makes me want to install the best i can afford at least.

i blew a ring gear, and swapped in a "new" 3rd member, i did not count teeth, i just mic'd the thickness of the ring gear, and it was the same, so i figured it was good, nope. anyhow long story short, i ran it that way for 2 years wondering WTF was wrong with my truck, then one day it hit me like a ton of bricks, i pulled the "new" 3rd and counted teeth comparing to the old broken ring gear and wala... got another 3rd member, this time with the right ratio and now im golden other than well im running 4:10s with 35s... that will all change by the end of the month hopefully, as i will be going to nitro 4:88 and ARBs f/r, just waiting on the gears at this point. ARB up front, thus the 4 sets of spare lifetime CVs...

Factory replacement shafts, complete: $243
I assume they're new, not reman, 'cause it doesn't say "reman".

I've been running the Napa Max Drives with lifetime warranty for about 3 years now. Several wheeling trips including Rubicon and i'm locked front/rear. Although I rarely use my front locker.

Grab the Napa and pick up a spare boot for the other one. Install the Napa drive on the truck and then reboot the old one and keep it as a trail spare. Then if you break your Napa one, swap with your OEM one, bring the Napa one back and get new one. Endless cycle of free CVs if needed.
