CV Replacement Issues

So I'm replacing my cv's. Everything has been going great, except now that I have to put the new ones in. Then new cv's only have about a 1/4" lip to hammer on to try to set them in place, compared to the more than half inch of lip on the old ones. How am I supposed to set these things? I pounded on the very end of the cv's with my rubber mallet, but I'm not sure if that will mess up any of the internals. Any ideas?

And here's a pic of what I am talking about. There really isn't enough surface to hammer on

Have you tried using a cro-bar like step 25 in this link? Worked for me.

First make sure that the C-clip is open on top, which will have the clip drop to the lower side..

Then like stated above, there are 3 outward lips on the inside of the Cv that will go toward the diff...

put a crowbar on them, grab a 3lb sledge and hammer it in there... turning about 1/4 turn after every couple hits.

Double make sure the C lip is on top.

I have zip tied (24" tie) the new shaft to the spring so that the CV is going into the diff housing straight on; if you let it hang down you will be fighting gravity and it will take a lot more force to hammer it in the housing.

I use this 24" crowbar. One end goes on the lip. The curved end I wedge against the frame and hit the end with my dead blow hammer. It should slide right in then.

Finally figured it out. The thing with these CV's is they only had one lip, and it was very small. They were not stock CV's, so I had to hit them straight in from the front of the axle. Probably not very good for them at all, but it had to be done. Now they click when cornering. Oh well, OEM CV's next time...

BTW LittleCaesar, that idea of tying them to the coil is amazing! saved me a ton of time I'm sure.
