They will not honor the warranty if they know your suspension is altered from stock. I made the mistake of driving my truck to the store, and the service manager saw it parked and thought it looked lifted. So he asked me about it. I wasnt going to stand there and lie about it. Its quite obvious that my 4runner is not sitting at stock height. So they decided to let me use the warranty that one time, but said it would have to be the last as my suspension was "altered"

Maybe your NAPA will be more relaxed about the fine print

Unfortunately this will many times be a bit of an issue regarding warrantied parts on a modified vehicle. I worked part time in the service department at an acura dealership throughout highschool and undergrad and anytime a modified acura (in those days it was the integras) would roll up with a failed/defective part, any warranty replacement was almost always denied. And it didnt seem to matter if the part had anything to do with the mods...i was definitely suprised by this. Ive seen customers try to take it up the chain to upper management to get the failed parts warrantied but after a long dragged out process it would still get denied. The very few times i saw parts get covered for a modified car was if the customer happened to get one of the "cooler" managers and they were having a good day...it also helped when the customer was stern but respectful...the rude customers seemed to get F*d with for awhile before the final denial. The way the fine print on the warranty was labeled it pretty much left it open for denial at the managers discretion. Definitely felt bad for a lot of those customers.

Summary, if you do the napa lifetime warranty, show up in another car just to avoid that situation.

When i recently replaced my cv axles with toyota reman's, the driverside outer boot developed a 1inch tear on the outer boot the next day. So I bought the toyota boot kit, rebooted my old toyota axle (courtesy of kball's write up) and took my newly purchased torn cv back to the dealer bc they told me it had a 12 month warranty. But i was paranoid that they would try to deny it since my 4runner is lifted. So i drove my fiance's honda to the dealer. Good thing i did bc when i brought in the cv, the parts manager asked to take a look at my truck. Told him i couldnt drive it since i was holding the axle in my hand. He seemed to be ok with it and said he would send it back to toyota and see what they say. This was last wkend and im still waiting back for an answer.

As always, im sure it will always depend on who you are dealing with.

Thanks for the heads up. My neighbor is a mechanic & own's a shop in town & will be ordering it for me. He's been letting me use his shop & teaching me thing's. I'm glad we are becoming buddies because I couldn't do a lot this stuff in my driveway. (no garage) :bravo:

You're lucky, im having to do most of my maintenance stuff at the top floor of my parking deck bc im not supposed to do any automotive work at my place and people rarely go up to the top floor so it keeps me somewhat under the radar. Kinda sucks right now tho bc with georgias heat and humidity right now i feel like im stroking out each time i have to do any work. I do have access to some friends/family garages and im sure they dont mind since i do clean up after myself and either buy dinner or bring beer but i try to avoid that if possible just out of courtesy. Definitely miss having access to a service garage when i worked at acura back in the day. I gotta grow up and buy a house with a garage...

Please share the info about how to identify Toyota OEM CV shafts.

I can't comment on CVJ but I can encourage you to just reboot with an OEM boot kit and slide the boot down the shaft. This has worked great for me and I have been running the same CV shafts on my Taco for 4-5 years. I also have a SS diff drop which probably helps.

I ended up getting the autozone gold cvs after trying and failing to install a silicone boot on my stock cv that had ripped. one day i found one of the outer boots had ripped, I think I had accidentally backed over a bush and it poked the boot. as far as replacement, they had no problem doing it, I still had my old ripped and bad oem cv (i put well over 2k on it after the boot had torn including offroading) so I gave them that one and theh gave me a new one. they just want the core anyways. and they seem to be working alright too, holding up to 35s now.

It seems like there are a lot of offroad related items that come with warranties, but not all of them will honor the warranty of you have a lift, or airdown or go offroad. autozone keeps their word as well as 4wheel parts for tires and firestone for their alignments.


also you can just go to another napa store and try, I doubt they write down notes in their system.

Passenger side inner bit the dust yesterday and grease jizzed out.
I'm close to pulling the trigger on them. I'm also wondering if I should keep mine and reboot as spares in case these do not workout??

Buy silicone boots and re boot them yourself if your gonna do it. Pulled a set of these out 'cuz the outer (turning and articulating ) tore.

For over two years without any issues.

I keep a cheap spare cv axle. Let's face it. Any trail fix isn't going to be a permanent fix. It's just to get home.

Sorry to revive the thread but wanted to throw my experience in.

My CVJ remans w/ red silicone boot have been nothing short of perfect. Over 50k miles of abuse and zero issues until just recently, due to my own fault.

While messing with a tie rod install recently I put a tiny pinhole in my red silicone boot and it started pissing grease. Emailed CVJ and they replied within about 12 hours, offering to sell me just the boot for a great price, even though it was my own fault for messing it up.

Not only are their products top notch, but the customer service is by far some of the best I've ever experienced. I can't recommend them more, this is a great company with a great product.
