cylinder #3 misfiring

i have a 97 SR5 4runner i started to get a real rough run and a check engine light. i ran the code and it came back to #3 cylinder misfire. i changed the spark plug out and the coil pack and boot and it still runs rough. but its intermittent and changes. When i throttle into it pretty hard i can feel it spark on the cylinder cuz it instantly adds power and smooths out but then starts running rough again. Could i have a loose wire or a clogged injector? any help would be greatly appericated. im starting to get frustrated.

When you changed out the plugs and wires did the code pop up for the same cylinder? If its still misfiring cyl 3 after you swapped the plugs it could be your injector.

this is bad news. The same thing happened to me last Thursday.

I have a 97 4Runner with 199k miles, all original.

To make a long story short. I have a cracked head. They just got it apart today and told me. The mechanic who I've been going to for years pretty much predicted it on Monday. He said that when there is a misfire in CYL#3 and coolant is present it is almost *always* a cracked head and not just a gasket.

Hopefully you don't have any of those problems. - You could just have a bad spark plug or wire.

Any shop should be able to pull the plugs out and check if there is coolant in the CYL. In my case all the carbon had been burned off in that CYL so it was pretty clear it wasn't a spark plug. Then today they got it apart.

Don't see how this is being a moron. In fact he was just stating the obvious. If a post is misconstrued due to grammatical errors a problem could go misdiagnosed. Think about it.

Sounds close to an issue I just fixed thanks to the help of this forum. My misfire was on 4 and 5. Also it ran fine on cold startup. Then would miss and run rough when it warmed up. Thought about all the usual suspects; plugs, coil pack, wires and so on. Turns out the fuel injector on number 4 was faulty. Metered ok but was bad mechanicaly I guess. Replaced the one injector and problem solved. Hope this helps.
