Dark Lord's Build Thread

Hey Dark Lord nice looking rig. I dont mean to jack your post. Just wanted to introduce myself to you Indy guys. I am a floridian up here on a consulting assignment living off Crawfordsville Rd as well. It would be great to link up.

Again nice rig! Gotta love the black theme!

Hey man! How long are you in Indy for? I'm just down the road from Clermont. It's kind of sad, but I rolled my 4runner out on I-74 this past Friday.....

Looking good Chris! Do you plan to paint your stock bumpers or add a plate bumper?

I was going to paint my stock bumpers temporarily, and get bumpers long term. I planned on taking this truck on a cross country trip sometime next year, so a winch would be required since it would've been just me and my girlfriend. Well now since my truck was rolled, I don't know yet. I'm definitely getting another 4runner, or going to attempt to fix this....

Here's the damage/story:

So there I was driving down I-74 west on my way to work this morning during inclement winter weather. I left almost an hour earlier this morning for my one hour commute to work. Taking it slow at about 40 mph in 4hi, I even had people pass me. That still didn't stop what was about to happen. Next thing I know I lost traction from my rear wheels and started to slide towards the center (which in retrospect I would've much rather just gone straight and off the road that way). I remained calm and tried to gain control of the vehicle. It seemed almost as if the vehicle had just given up, and there was nothing I could do to get back on track. I went off the right side of the road into a steep incline.....

These photos were taken approximately 2-3 hours after the incident.

Then rolled once or twice (I can't really remember).

She starts right up, but has a little bit of roof damage....

Man that sucks dude. I'm glad you are ok and walked away.

Was it the tires? or not enough weight in the back?

I put sandbags in the back of my 4Runner last year when I went up to the snow.

I honestly don't know..... I'm not even sure if I was in 4x4 at the time, since I was in and out of it due to the road conditions. Some areas were plowed nicely, and others weren't. I should've just left it on the entire time. What caused the initial slippage though was a wind gust. It was extremely windy that day, and those gusts of wind were causing it to slide around a little bit.

Dude, that sucks. Glad you were OK, keep us posted with what you have planned for your 4runner as well as future ride.

Sorry to hear about your 4Runner. By the way, I am also in the Indy area, currently in Mooresville. If you guys get together send me a message. I would like to meet up with more 4Runner folks. Good luck on the new 4Runner too.

Here are some photos from my cross country trip thread!

This is my sleeping platform. I don't plan on doing a write-up on this. It is literally a flat sheet of furniture grade plywood with notches cut out to fit between the roll bar, two 2x10's screwed into the bottom, and some carpet stapled to it. I secured it in the back by strapping it down with some tie down ratchet straps. It worked great for its intended purpose! We were able to sleep comfortably on it, and store all of our gear,

Awesome to see you good in the new runner, seems like you guys hit a slick patch again but thankfully with no rollovers. :surfer:
