Dash finish wearing off?

My 2017 has a spot on the dash where it appears the finish is wearing off down to a white plastic appearance. I’ve never seen this happen before and there are no scratches in the area? This is on the passenger side right below the “crease” area.

Just based up the pattern and the damage, it sure looks like it was scraped with a boot or something sudden moving across it. You can see the heavier hit on the bottom of the pic and fade as it moves up.

Do you lay anything in that area while you are driving?

I thought the dash and other black interior parts were black plastic--not painted black, which is what this looks like! Another cost saving idea from Toyota?

If it is painted/coated it doesn't appear to be very durable,

Hmm, guess I’ll have to see if I can find those guys who do interior touch up work for dealerships. My IS300 had a bunch of issues with the dashboard, doesn’t surprise me that this scratches so easily.

My vote would be a solvent of some type on a gloved hand that took the finish off.

Good point. I do remember in the owner's manual it mentions not to use abrasive or solvent-type cleaners on the interior surfaces. Guess this is why. Hope water isn't too strong.

Think I figured it out, my radar detector came loose off the suction mount and bounced across the dash and hit in that general area.

FYI, I did confirm that it is painted black and the actual dash is white/Gray. Honestly, makes for an easy repair.

Thank you for the info . Good to know for when it happens to mine !

just picked up my 2018 and noticed the same issue on my brand new dash..

I was wondering if anyone knows of or found a good fix to this?

thanks!

Has anyone found a color that matches this? The dealership scratched my dash when getting an oil change and I don’t trust them to take my dash apart and install a new one!

I haven't found a matching color. The interior touchup guy said it would be hard to match and it might be more noticeable. I just decided to leave it alone.
