Dash removal Question?!

So, I pulled the dash off the rig a couple times to get the Tacoma Whip and the CB installed. All of the instructions I saw said to remove all knobs from the AC system and such, then remove the AC faceplate. Behind this plate are (3) screws (which are described below).

My question is: why does any of this need to come out in order to get the fascia off? I did not see how any of these screws or the faceplate had anything to do with the large piece of plastic, so I put those back on first when I re-assembled, and maybe that is why it does not sit totally flush (previously I assumed it was because I had a wire behind my CB holding it out), but maybe I am not understanding something about how this goes back together.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

They don't need to be removed in 99+ as far as I have experienced.

Whoever told you that is not very good at what they're doing.

Sometimes the pieces comes out of alignment, if you will, you just need to nudge it on back.

Are any of the bulbs burnt out in the HVAC panel? May as well change them now! No need to take that panel off otherwise. If your main dash piece is sticking out in the bottom right corner its likely due to the CB antenna plug. I used a 90 degree fitting on mine to make it fit nicely.

It appears like you've been told that all 3rd gen's have the same dashboard center panel and removal is all alike.

On the 96-98, the climate control panel needs to be removed in order to expose the 2 screws holding the plastic trim...this clearly is not the case for 99's above.

All bulbs are functioning, so I plan on just leaving it as is. Yes, it buldges on the lower right hand corner....and I also have the 90 fitting on....that is the frustrating thing! I am going to pull it off again and see what I can see, but any other ideas would be appreciated! Maybe I can somehow get the fitting to screw in closer to the body of the radio somehow?

I think that is the consensus, I was led down the path of an older dashboard. Thanks blcktpgsr for the help!

in addition, the Uniden 520 you have is actually 1/2" shorter in actual length than the Cobra DX IV I installed. I also put the 90 degree adapter at the back of the unit, and I was able to snug the plastic cover just fine without any resistance.

I say check any wiring harnesses that might get in the way when re-inserting the CB along with the plastic trim, or try dry-fitting the unit first with the 90 degree adapter mounted...this will enable you to determine how far in or out you have to install your Uniden.
