Dash Set-up

I picked up my truck just a few months ago, and i am extremely new the whole realm of modding...anything really. However, I am replacing the stock stereo, and a bad CB and sloppy wiring all along the dash. I need some ideas, but i'd figure i'd open it up.

There's all kinds of threads/galleries for home mods, custom jobs, 4runners on 35s, etc, etc. I searched (maybe not well enough) but i didn't see any interior/dash COLLECTION.

If there is one, sorry...forgive my nooblet-ness :baby:

If not, i know you got em, lemme see em. RAM mounts, CBs, HAMs, switches, the whole nine! :thanks:

Search CB's and see what comes up. There are more than a few different ways to do it. That should bring them up.

Here's mine...


Put my 2 Meter under my Alpine, the CB in place of the ash tray, added a volt meter where the clock was and bough a Panavise mount with a carcomm kit for my iPhone. Also Ive since added a trans temp gauge in the space above the 4wd shifter.

I can find A LOT of independent, build thread-ish, pictures. Ash tray CB, in the center console, in the dash, on top of the dash, on the roof, on the floor, etc.

It's a lot to take in, i figured people who are planning on changing their interior set up would appreciate it all in one spot? i dunno.

oh, and i dunno if you're the moto type...but...ooh-rah. i was a 2621 myself. i appreciate your service.

I figured between the Alpine and my iPhone I didnt need another clock.

Ive been trying to find a photo with the Trans Temp, but haven't yet.

I also have plans to fit a double din DVD/Nav. radio in the dash (if I can get a topo program to load onto the Nav) when I do Ill cut the bottom, where the ash tray and 12v Aux plugs are, out and fab a new fiberglass din for my 2 Meter and CB...Might ditch the CB all together, I never really use it any more.

It such a preferential thing that each one goes about it different, much different from a suspension where there is limited routes to take, hence having dedicated threads for it.

AH- You were one of those guys! We got calls from you from time to time in Sangin telling us to make a turn NOW and do not go there! Or set up now they are walking to your position! Sure you know what I mean.

I was out in Delaram, back in 2010! we had a team that supported ops out in sangin at that time. and i do know what you mean. thanks! i was a lowly fobbit. but, operation: stay alive was a success

I was out there in 08. It was 150% on our own pretty much. We worked with other Country's mostly and supported everyone not just the MC. Some good times, some really shitty times.

look back for my post on my custom dash pod out of a mitsubishi montero. I am on my phone otherwise I would link it. Has my boost gauge, egt gauge and a compass/outside temp gauge on a pod mounted above the vents on the dash.

you could always install a Hilux Surf field monitor unit (FMU) or its equivalent from a Subaru Forester (gauge pack)...
 
Nothing too crazy here. Aftermarket headunit to make room for a 2M ham radio, Samsung Galaxy 7" tablet on a Pro-clip mount, wideband O2 meter next to ashtray (can't see it since it's off in the photo), usb port and manual power antenna up/down switch:

I didn't, but it was fairly easy. I took apart a digital V meter that fits a standard size gauge pod and glued it in where the clock was. You will also need a small piece of Plexiglas, I also tinted the Plexiglas so that you couldn't see anything but the number when lit. Once the clock is out you can cut the piece of glass so that it matched the hole then glue it in and then place the volt meter in behind. It all went in really smooth, I think the whole thing took about an hour.

It was a lot of work. I still have the gauges but I took the inclinometer out because it was just eye candy. I check the gauges all the time, but I never looked at the inclinometer so it went. I'll probably use that space for mounting light switches for my front and rear bumpers at some point.
