Last year my 2007 4runner sport 4.0 was plagued by a problem where as I was driving along, all of a sudden, all the dash lights would light up, the A/C stopped working, the flashers stopped working, and other items such as windshield wipers etc. I read on a couple of forums that it might be the gas cap, the charcoal canister or a loose ground wire. I took it to two different mechanics who supposedly had no idea what the problem was. Long story short it ended up costing me $700 but since then everything has worked fine.
