Dashboard question/4wd icon

Considering buying another 3rd gen, one thing I noticed that I was unsure about is that this particular runner has the e-locker but no 4wd icon (the 4 wheels and tcase) in between the speedometer and rpm gauge. I was under the impression that all the 3rd Gens that had the elocker had that icon. Is this incorrect?

The 4WD icon in the first picture you posted is for the multi-mode transfer case offered on 1999 and 2000 Limiteds as well as all 2001's and 2002's. I believe the standard transfer case offered prior to 2001 had the icon below instead, which sounds like what you're looking at with that 4runner.

Sorry I guess I'm confused. I had a 97 limited with the e-locker and it had the icon in between the speedometer and rpm gauge, the 99 limited im considering has the e-locker but no icon between gauges.

According to the 97 user guide, it's the icon like the pic I posted above.

Like I stated, the icon between the gauges was for the multimode transfer case. The 99 you are considering has the standard transfer case.

I even managed to find a YouTube video of the instrument cluster from a 97 limited. You'll note the absence of the center icon.
