Hello T$R world (meant to put the $, since im dropping so much coin on my truck because of you guys LOL)
My latest gadget installed into my truck.
If you are reading this, i dont have to tell you about the millions of choices out there from $20 to 2000 dash cams. dashcamtalk.com doesnt help either since lots of their stuff are hard to find legit, many cameras are cloned and counterfit with lesser specs. its a crazy market. i personally have used 5 different ones, bought amazon prime because of my Dash Cam testing! thats was my rational excuse hahaha so it leads me up to this last one that i will have for a while. its expensive $299 retail. its from a name brand company i trust! Its a quality piece, lots of them are made cheapo!
Compustar Dash Compustar DASH | HD Surveillance and Security Camera System
No need to regurgitate the webpage onto the review and pictures!
Unboxing: Cute box, quality cardboard unlike all the other junk that comes from china. this had ENGLISH on the box! If you got others before you know what im talking about.

Front Camera:
Product labeling. Includes a Compustar 12gb class 10 high capacity sd card. You know china junk doesnt have any labels or any sd cards or even state any cards that it works with. i have plenty of 16gb 32gb and 64 gd cards that dont work with some cameras!! front panel is touch screen too.

AS you can see, its a big display. I must admit i was turned off by that at first seriously. It sat on my desk for 5 days because i was contemplating on keeping it.
Rear Camera:
Dont have pictures of that yet.
Included in the box was this little doo hickey a USB SD card reader. it can read 64gb cards.

and a instruction manual thats written in english by a english speaking person that has a concept of the english language. If you played with more than one dash cam or anything from china, you'll know what i mean. OMFG that bugs the crap out of me!

Initially i was kinda pissed about quality of video since all i did was IGNORE the manual written by a english speaking human like all self proclaimed expert installer LOL, did i just say that out loud...no, so its ok hahaha
Video was grainy, choppy and laggy..POS, then i opened the book and read it. It said to download the viewer...ooooh shit.
The viewer made life AWESOME, just like theme song to latest lego movie!
I must say, i can do lots with the viewer like configure my dash cam, look at front camera video only or rear only or both at the same time.
Since it has a 3 axis gyro scope, i can see a little chart the whole length of the 1 minute incremented movie where there is a event. Events can be triggered by motion, or shock.
Motion events. this feature works. i bought a few that says it has motion. Dont know how those POS dash cam could record motion if it only had one power and ground connection. that means it would stay on all the time. with the dash it has 3 wires that need to be hardwired connection. No 12v cigarette adapter plug, thats for amutures!! this unit will knowwhen the car shuts off and go into parking mode.
With parking mode dash will record onto sd if it senses motion. 10 seconds prior and 10 seconds after. so the event will be 20 seconds long. Park on a busy street? Yes you will have it recording all day long bunch of 20 second clips turned into 2.4gb on my sd card, so no worries there!
Since it has a gyroscope, you jumping off curbs with your truck will set off a event and it will save it in another folder. helpful in instances where you need to search for a specific event.
It also has optional GPS antenna, didnt install that yet. contemplating since it will have tons of info provided LOL, nah actually forgot to order it hehehe.
ok ok onto the pictures on quality of video. so i only took screen shots.
take some things into considerration while looking at these pictures
2003 toyota 4 runner
5% tint in rear over factory 20% tint

rear sitting at same location. tint is dark!

me backing up into my driveway. driveway is real dark

thru the back window. you guys know i have the cree 3x2" floods in my back bumper

this is what i did before i installed it. covered up the branding with some super 33 3m tape and the recording red led. stealth mode

video of the circular led. video taken at dusk. 5 minutes before leaving the parking lot in the above photos. click on the picture to see video
