Has anyone tried a DashMat or similar cover? It's damn hot in Chico CA and my 2012 is not garaged. While I want to prevent dash cracks which I hear were rampant in Gen IV's I don't want to block high frequency sound from Infinity Kappa speakers I installed in stock dash locations. Dashmat says covering speakers will not impact sound. Any comments?

Toyota fixed the dash cracking problem, so I don't think it's been a problem except for early 4th gens. A dash mat could actually make it worse if it makes the dash get hotter, somehow, by absorbing or trapping more heat. It's unlikely, but who knows? A dark color will absorb light and get hot, and heat could be trapped between the mat and the dash rather than getting airflow that it would get if the dash was uncovered. A light color could reflect more light onto the windshield and cause more glare in some conditions.
High frequency sound is very easily blocked, and even a medium layer of fabric could attenuate it some. Dash mat certainly looks thick enough to muffle high frequency sounds. The best thing to do would be to cut out holes in the dash mat where the speakers go, and optionally sew in panels of acoustically transparent fabric like what's used to cover speakers and sound absorbing panels. Maybe see if they can do it for you for a clean look.

Love my window film on the windshield! Its the Air80 from Llumar, keeps my dashboard warm, but not hot to the touch no matter how long its been parked in direct sun! That alone is worth getting it done, but the benefit of being protected from the UV rays (which is what cooks the dash and makes it susceptible to cracking/warping) is even more beneficial than the reduced heat!
I know its not for everybody, but if you don't mind the extra expense and are okay with tinting the front windshield, I highly recommend getting it done!

I do not know about individual products but I bought top of the line window tinting for my Subaru and had it installed by a professional. One problem that was evident is that when using polarized glasses that there was distortion and color patters when looking out a tinted window.
