Okay so i finally installed the daystar and spidertrax kits i I've had in my garage for almost a year. Absolutely miserable starting out! but let me explain. Im not a grease/wrench monkey but i do know how to turn a wrench. So after scouring the interwebs for days in search of the dreaded XREAS install i found many good, well written articles and write ups. I thank everyone on here and toy120 for your great pics, write ups, and tutorials. I will add pics later, my camera is a POS and needs to be shot in the face at the moment.

My end summation for the front end install with Xreas:
0, get compressor and air tools!!!
1, Remove skid plates and swaybar
2, loosen the lower shock nut/bolt, take off the 3 bolts on top of shock
3, remove 2 bolts holding lower control arm to spindle/hub
4, loosen LCA bolts that connect LCA to frame, you need an alignment anyway! lol
5, BINGO! drop LCA all the way down and add daystar (or whatever company) spacer, even new spring install is easy squeezy this way.
NOTE: following this method you will not have to remove any brackets for ABS/Speedsensor/Xreas, or support the hub/spindle...etc
6, wiggle shock/strut assembly back into it housing and close everything back up!
WAMMO! done, I tried several other methods and removed all kinds of junk and wasted so much time, once i figured this out the 2nd side took 30 minutes and was NOOO HASTLE at all.

REAR: very easy! start with front so you feel good about yourself!! much easier with 2 ppl.

again i will add pics of before/after and install write up! Thanks again to everyone here on these forums!! I hope to help and contribute to the cause!! lol

Is the kit you installed the quick install topout only kit or the preload/topout kit that requires disassembly of the strut? Interesting technique of essentially removing the LCA and installing everything above it before reinstall, Ive got a Daystar kit inbound and am looking for any shortcuts I can find to make it easier, thanks for the writeup, hope pics are forthcoming.

Synister, kit was the newer one that doesn't require strut disassembly, and yes loosening the LCA and pushing it all the way to the ground turned this several hour project into a 30 minute piece of cake. one thing i forgot to note is that you should mark the alignment pieces on the LCA before loosening (i will explain later with pics), mine barely moved but i did it for peace of mind!
pics are coming with a write up, give me a few days

my only tip: get a compressor and air tools. i installed my toytec 3/2 on my 04 with xreas and it took me half a day with a help from a buddy of mine. the only part that sucked most was manually compressing the spring compressor by hand. the rest is cake.

hey synister,

check my sig. i did a similar DS install a few weeks back by myself with no air tools. well i had my 3 year old helping me with the rear and it actually took longer with the help =). i put the DS budget boost 1" spacer in the front and the 1.5 " in the rear. anyway, here are the tips that helped me.

- 14mm ratchet wrench, even if you have air tools there is one bolt on each of the fronts upper spring perch that is really tight. i don't think you can get an air ratchet in there, i couldn't get a regular one in.

- BIGGEST TIP!! i used a 3 foot section of 2x4. i used it o pry down the LCA then i put my knee on it to free up both hands to get the shock assembly out. also used the 2x4 to pry off the shocks in the rear and pry the rear spring into position. it was a little tight with the spacers in there.

good luck.

rich, lets see those pics!!!

euy, PICS ARE COMING!! I gotta go pick up my broken camera from best buy, hopefully its fixed.
euy, when you used a bar to pull down the LCA, were you able to get the shock strut all the way out?? I tried and couldn't get it and then figured i would just loosen the LCA / frame bolts, and that baby dropped to the floor!
i know i know pics are coming!! lol

rich...yes i was able to manuveur the entire shock assembly out by prying down the LCA without loosening the LCA chassis bolts. without prying the LCA i could not get it out. that's why i grabbed my trusty 2x4. that thing has helped me out on so many things i lost count. when i did my install, each front side only consisted of the 6 lugs, one bolt for the sway bar end link, 2 bolts for the LCA, 1 bolt for the bottom of the shock and 3 on top. as you said, it was cake as soon as you figured out what to do. took me just under 2 hours to do one side (i was smoking fish at the same time so i could have cut that time down a little) and 25 minutes to do the other.

Ahh good stuff Euy!! my camera is still broken, im just trying to get Worst Buy to replace a defective camera they sold me and its taking a long time, but ill use my girlfriend's camera this weekend and put together a write up! Im very happy with the lift and spacers!!! This is the way these trucks should come from the stealership!

I'm looking forward to this writeup for sure. The more info the better. Euy has already walked me through it and I feel confident that I can do the install. I just want to see another view of how to do it. Maybe we can get them all put together in one nifty document showing each different way and people can access it that are looking to do this, or they can print it off and bring it to the shops who don't know how to do it and can get it done. I know some shops won't touch XReas, but I see no reason why not with all of the success stories, especially if we can show them info and educate them.

The kit ill be installing is the older topout/preload kit still available from wheelers offroad so the only additional step is disassembling/reassembling the struts. Ive got access to airtools, a lift and pretty much any shop tool youd care to use so for me its more about streamlining the process rather than making do with a given tool set...lucky me! Id rather pop a few bolts loose that will need realignment anyways than worry about abs lines and pry bars. Should be installing the lift, new pro comp 7098 wheels and 255/75r17 silent armors in 2 weeks or so, keep yall posted. Looking forward to pics!

Looking forward to the pictures with the step-by-step! I too will be doing this in the near future! Thanks ahead of time for putting it together!

2007 Toyota 4Runner Daystar Lift, Xreas:guitar2:
Pre install notes to reader:
* I chose the Daystar lift because it was cheap and it could use it without disturbing the factory Xreas system.
* I performed this lift without using spring compressors, and I did not have to disconnect the Xreas system.
* I used Daystar’s new spacer kit, which is top mount only, no preload spacer.

Tools Needed:
2 people
GOOD GLOVES
Compressor, Air ratchet, Impact gun (not needed, but makes life muuuuuch easier)
Metric socket sets, 3/8” and 1/2”, deep and shallow
Metric flat wrench set, 12, 14, 17, 19mm, ratcheting wrench set also if you have it
Jack and 2 jack stands, couple blocks of wood for chocks
Random pry bars
Screw drivers and other small stuff when needed
Extra large teddy bear for when you need a hug, or to share excitement with (optional)

1, Jack up front end, sit frame on jackstands behind front wheel wells, Front tires off, easy

2, Remove front skid plates, theres 2 skid plates, 4 bolts each, 12mm, easy

3, Remove swaybar entirely from vehicle, 4 x 14mm bolts, and bolts attaching it to spindle, see pic

swaybar.jpg~original

4, Take off the 3 nuts on top of shock assembly, TAKE EM OFF! inner most nut is a pain
shock1.jpg~original

5, Loosen the lower shock nut/bolt
shock2.jpg~original

6, Remove 2 bolts holding lower control arm to spindle/hub, pry LCA loose
LCA1.jpg~original

7, At this point everything is taken out that needs to be, the spindle is STILL attached to the upper control arm, no Xreas or brake line brackets were disconnected. However the Lower Control Arm still needs a little more influence to loosen up, so NOW you will loosen the bolts that attach the LCA to the frame.

*Note, these bolts are your alignment points on the front end, so you will need to mark these bolts and at the alignment sights so that when you tighten back up you can make sure they are in proper place. I scored the metal on the frame with a continuos line that went to the alignment washers
*Note: you only need to loosen these bolts a little bit, In my case my alignment washes didn't move at all. and you will need to get an alignment after this lift

8, BINGO! Now that the LCA to frame bolts are loose, drop LCA all the way down, the hub will remain suspended so no need to support it, and now you have enough wiggle room to install the Daystar stud extenders and spacer. At this point a new spring install would be very easy, you would need spring compressors for that.

9, wiggle shock/strut assembly with spacer back into its housing on the frame, and your done!
a. Put on new Daystar stud extender nuts on top of shock, tighten
b. Tighten lower shock bolt
c. Re-attach the 2 LCA to spindle bolts, you may need to jack up the LCA to align it correctly with the
spindle/hub
d. Tighten LCA to frame bolts, make sure to check your alignment markings
e. Double check everything
f. Put front tires back on
g. Jump up and down while clapping hands

WAMMO! Done!! Once I figured this out the passenger side took 45 minutes to complete.

REAR: very easy! Much easier with 2 people and the supplied Daystar instructions are suffice
1, Jack up rear end, jackstands in front of rear wheels on frame, wheels off. Place jack under center of rear axle
2, Disconnect lower shock bolts, pry off shock, don't be scared
3, Disconnect pan-hard bar (not sure why its called that), I only disconnected the bolt attached to the axle
4, Drop rear axle, take out springs and inverted cone bump stop thing, put rear spacer on spring, pry back in, tighten everything back up.
DONE!

great write up and pics! congrats on the install.

in that pic, is the front of the running boards higher than the rear part? (reverse rake) or is it just the angle of the pic?

Good question! It could be the pic, i haven't noticed reverse rake while actually looking at the truck, but i will get some better pics and some measurements

Planning on doing this soon, but what is the height (front, middle, rear) of the top of your factory rack? Want to be sure it'll still fit in the garage.
