daystar lift - few questions

I want to do slight lift on my 08 sport 4runner and since it has x-reas and I want to keep it, my only option is to go with a spacers solution (from what I've read). I'm thinking of getting the Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit, but I have a few questions.

1. I don't do any hardcore off-roading. In the summer I'll occasionally drive through a forest path which could get a bit tricky (depends how much it rained). I've scraped my skid plate a few times, so I just want a bit more clearance. Would the spacers be OK for that?
2. Will I loose any highway ride quality, or should I be concern with anything going wrong? Might there be any damage from a spacer lift? I rather not visit a shop a few months into a spacer lift because it damaged something.
3. I need to replace my tires. Stock 265/65/R17. If I get the lift should I just go with 265/70/R17?
4. I'm in Canada, Ontario, and it looks like my only option of getting those spacers it ordering them through the net. Anyone knows where I can buy it locally (greater Toronto area).
5. Obviously, I'm a nub when it comes to car mechanics, so there's no way for me to install it myself (plus I don't have any tools). Anyone knows of a good shop that might do it (and knows what to do)?

Given that you're new to the site, the best thing I can do is tell you to start reading the wealth of information already contained on the site about lifts. While it probably won't help you with the Toronto specific questions (and neither can I), the site is packed with information for those willing to do a little searching. The lift and tire central photo thread has plenty of information about setups (although it admittedly takes a long time to wade through all of those pages) and the 4th gen suspension thread has a lot of technical information/advice. Plus there have been countless threads discussing people's experience with daystar lifts.

With that said, I'll get you started ...

1. A spacer lift should be more than sufficient for most forest service roads, etc.
2. Most folks seem to agree that a spacer lift slightly improves the 4Runner ride ... at the very least they would agree that it maintains the best features of the stock ride.
3. This is personal opinion ... with the DS 2.5/1.5 I would at least move to 265/70R17's. I think that looks pretty good ...
4. & 5. Sorry, can't help you there ...

Everyone is a beginner at some point, and the job you are talking is fairly easy in terms of ability. You should be able to do it with only a few tools.

Otherwise, it is a simplish job and any decent garage would be able to do it.

I haven't had a chance to post pics of my setup yet, but I have an 08 with X-REAS and the daystar lift. So, I will weigh in on my experience.

Ride quality will improve. It will feel a tad more stiff (great for trucks/suvs I think) and that helps balance the fact that the center of gravity has slightly raised.

I upgraded the tire size to 265/70/17R's. I think its the right size, definitely looks good. Also consider that it is a modest upgrade (tires and the lift) ... it isn't going to look like it has been crazy jacked up, just overall a little more aggressive/off-road capable... the way it should have come from the factory in the first place.

I recommend this Daystar setup that they discuss in the thread. Cheaper and better in my opinion. I ordered these parts from streetsideauto.com and am very happy about the results from only $80!

Go here for info on the install. I say find a friend and do it yourself. I learned a lot about my car in the process. I also take pride in having done the project myself.

You will save a TON of time if you can find a friend with air tools. They aren't necessary.

Final recommendation - Do it! Get the $80 Daystar setup and take step up to 265/70's. Excellent upgrades for both looks and utility with low cost. I'll be glad to answer questions as I just did this lift a few weeks ago and am new to the T4R(proud owner for 6 mo) and the forum so I won't get mad if you didn't find something in a search thread.

Take the Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit over the $80 option.
It will be much easier to install (easy worth the price difference, trust me I went the $80 way and spent way too much time)

I used to have Revos on my 3rd gen. Loved them for the first 20-25K. Then they got louder and louder. I had two sets and both did the same. Look around the site for other great tires to consider

I think you will really like the DS 2.5/1.5. I have had mine on for a couple of months and am very pleased with it. I still have my Xreas system too. I also have the Spidertrax spacers, which gives it a really nice stance. After i installed the spacers i up-sized my tires from 265/60 18 to 265/65 18....which is basically the same size difference you are thinking, only on 18" wheels, instead of 17". I picked the BFG Rugged Terrain tires. They are very quiet on the road, but have a nice tread pattern. It actually rides more smooth now than before. Feel free to ask any questions.

I have a 2003 with XREAS. I went with the Daystar 2.5/1.5 and it is great. The only difference I find in the ride is a little float in steering. This is due to not being able to get the Caster alignment correct. New upper control arms will take care of that when I get the money for them. Right now it is not a problem. No additional wear on the tires or any other damage to anything. Had the same issue with a Nissan Frontier.
I had a local fab shop do the install. for me it was worth the $400 to have it done and not worry about damaging the XREAS system. If you do the work yourself do a lot of research on the XREAS so you really understand what you need to do. It does look pretty simple, I just did not want risk it.

I have not changed tires yet, maybe do it next week. I am planning on going to 285/70/17, either Firestone Destination or Goodyear Silent Armor.

I am running SpiderTrax up front and did the fender liner move to eliminate rubbing.

FYI, after installing the SpideTrax, my stock tires rubbed on the front inner fender liners. The move (which is easy and quick) resolved the rubbing.

I just picked up my spacer lifts, and now waiting for wheel spacers to come in. While waiting, I'm looking for a shop that would install it at a reasonable price...pain in the a$$ I'm starting to toy with the idea of doing it myself.

I've been digging around on the net and found issues with alignment after having the lift done, so now I'm considering getting SPC upper control arms.

They're expensive. At $613 (including taxes and shipping) it's not cheap - in Canada stuff's not that easy to find! Is is really worth having them on? Should I get them?

don't worry about uca's for the daystar...if you go slightly bigger i would worry about it. I have the daystar and it isn't needed at all. Slight more float on the freeway because of the caster angle but nothing to worry about.

If you're under 3"lift then there would not be any issues getting the alignment back into spec. Ucas won't be necessary.

The FJ spacer will fit the 4runner. Don't have part numbers, but either will fit. The FJ spacer is typically much cheaper.

Yea, that will fit. The 4runner and FJ (07-09) suspensions are fully interchangeable, so it'll fit. Price is good, depends on shipping. It's $144 + shipping at 4WheelParts. Personally, I'd pay $150 max for the install. I can do it in about 3 hours with basic tools. It's pretty easy with only basic tools required. If you have the room to work, you can take that $150 and buy the tools to do it yourself (this is what I'd personally do).
