DBD6604's 95 4Runner Build Thread

Glad to hear about another resurrection! I just got mine back on the road after a head job. Learned some good lessons about that engine. And started on the first try!

By the way, you mentioned the oil cooler... I have one, and actually have considered taking it off. Everybody says to keep a cooler, but at the same time, I don't like the potential oil leak from it, and I don't know how much it really cools. So, long story short, you're probably fine without one, and if it wasn't there you don't have to make the decision to keep it or not! :)

Worked on the truck a little bit tonight. Stripped one of the studs that the fuel rail(s) slide onto, so we had to cut new threads on it and all that jazz. Got most of the harness hooked up, but then we had to leave to do some quick work on a 97 Blazer my uncle just got. It's got the 4.3L, auto trans, 4x4, 144k miles on it. He got it for $700 and the only things it need are rear spring shackles and fuel gauge sending unit. I'm honestly kind of jealous, it's kind of a steal at $700.

ANYWAY, all I really have left to do is put the intake plenum on, hook up the rest of the harness, hook up all the vacuum lines, and flush the radiator. After that it should be good to go! Gosh, why has this taken me so long? :D

Nice buy on the blazer. Tell your uncle dont expect the sending unit to fix the gauge perminately. Chevy has a defect in all of the senders for the blazers and trucks. My 01 blazer had the problem. dealership i bought it from replaced it and 2 weeks later it was right back to how it was. I am looking for one right now for a steal like that so i can put the engine into my runner.

I think he's already given up on fixing the sending unit. The Blazer only needs front wheel bearings and it'll be good to go. Just in time for th cold weather. :D

those are easy if they are the same as mine were. They were sold as a one piece hub since it auto hubs. It was a bolt in thing if i remember right. I loved mine though.

Got it running last night, drove it for about 10 miles or so, and had the CEL come on. Parked it in the garage since it was late, got a chance to check it out today. Pulled codes 41 (TPS) and 52 (Knock Sensor). Removed the throttle body and adjusted the TPS, got rid of code 41. Still getting the knock sensor code though. Pigtail is good, but maybe I'm one of the unlucky ones with a bad knock sensor? Kinda sucky as I was hoping to be driving this thing this coming week, but oh well.

Haven't had time to replace the knock sensor and pigtail yet, but been driving it anyway. Getting about 8 MPG, assuming my fuel gauge is working correctly. No driveability problems and no CELs besides 52 (which obviously impacts MPG). I'm going to fix the knock sensor issue and see how much that helps. I'll probably end up throwing a new 02 sensor at it as well, as I have a feeling that may be the culprit, and god knows if it was ever done before.

Other than all that, it's a very fun vehicle to drive. :D Glad I jumped into this project.

Edit - First bath :D

Nice truck you got out there , just bought mine a week ago , it has 220xxx km with a 3.0L 1KZ-TE turbo diesel which is great power in desert areas like we have here in Egypt , I love this truck and will start in some body work to kill the rusty spots on it as it was never been painted and still got the stock paint since 1993 [emoji33] , wish me luck [emoji3]
