I'll likely get flamed for this, but:
There is a very good reason that HID retrofit kits are illegal (and in my opinion, dangerous) on public roads, and why they fail DOT standards almost universally.
The light pattern from an HID bulb is completely different than a halogen bulb, and must be reflected or projected appropriately. OEM manufacturers spend a whole lot of money and resources on making sure it's done appropriately. HIDs in reflector lenses are fine when done OEM because the reflector lens is designed to reflect the crescent-shaped light pattern of an HID bulb.
Re-based HID retrofit kits are not. At best you end up with bright light in areas you don't need bright light, and not on the road. At worst you end up blinding everybody else -- regardless of what pseudo-science is claimed about providing a horizontal cutoff.
Bright light 20 feet in front of your vehicle isn't where you need it from a driving lamp. If this is where you're looking when you drive, you have bigger problems to address.
The effects are not as exaggerated with a projector housing, but the quality of lighting is still vastly below standards of a bulb it's designed to project.
Try a Narva +90% or Osram +50% bulb in place of your stockers instead of some cheap unlicensed HID retrofit kit if proper road illumination is truly your goal.
