De-badging a shield protected 2011 4Runner

Hi guys,

Finally got my brand new 2011 4Runner 5 days ago. I had the dealer perform a shield protection treatment on the exterior paint. I now want to proceed with removing the ''SR5'' badges on both sides using the dental floss/hair blower method.

Am I at risk of being disappointed with the final result given that the newly exposed paint won't have been treated with the shield protector? Do you think that the paint finish will look different? Any one of you has done this before?

You do realize that your "shield" is nothing but wax don't you? It should look just the same.

Shield Protection on Paint

All they use is either wax or a paint sealer protectant. I do my own with meguair's and It last about one year, with regular hand washing.

^^^What they said. To be blunt- the dealer charged you for an overpriced wax job with a fancy name.

Now take those emblems off! Mine are looking pretty sweet on my toolbox in the garage...

Not sure how long the dealer has had the 4runner for but you're not suppose to wax it for the first 3 months or so.

not sure how that might effect the debadging.
