Dealer advice - oil change issue

I forget the location of this dealer. When I change my oil, all sources tell me to look for leaks. Today, one must assume all are incompetent. What A Long Strange Trip It's Been.

Stories like this and Antmans great write up on changing the oil and filter is why I'm dirty and tired today. Just changed mine today and checked for leaks before putting the skid plate back on. Getting ready for some dirt next week.

I have a 08 tundra with the same setup. It takes a little longer but isn't hard. I always change my own oil. My injection pumps went out. Truck was in limp mode. Took it to the dealership and it was fixed under warranty. The problem is water gets in them and supposedly the new ones are designed better. They took my passenger inner fender out to replace them. I got my truck back and was at home looking it over and saw that my inner fender was extremely loose. They put one out of five clips back in it. The probem is water/moisture messing them up and they leave my inner fender loose that blocks the water from it. Makes since doesnt it. Lol. They said they would come and get my truck and make it right but I just fixed it myself.

Not being critical here but if anything I own is dropping massive amounts of oil the key stays in my pocket not the ignition switch until I figure out what is going on and check the oil level once I do.

That being said, when I bought my 2015 Trail a couple of weeks ago they touted the ToyotaCare 2 year service. I can assure you my new 4Runner will not be getting ToyotaCare anywhere but my garage. I'll spring for the oil and filter it's not that big of deal and I know it's done right when I do it.

When you consider the hassle of driving to the dealer, waiting, the possibility of door dings or other damage, who is going to do the oil change (probably not one of the lead techs for sure)... just not worth it to me for something I can do in 1/2 hour correctly myself.

Had this happen to me once on a 2GR-FE Avalon. That big O-Ring must be in its intended slot or oil will fly out rapidly. I caught it immediately and shut down the engine.

3 miles of driving with this going on......hope all is well.

Vovo switched over to the oil filter canisters early on and I was always a little nervous the o ring was gonna crimp. It never happened to me after doing probably hundreds of them but it always crossed my mind. The old screw ons were pretty hard to mess up as long as you didnt leave the old gasket stuck to the block and end up with 2. That always ended badly. Im glad it all worked out without a tow but Im paranoid because Ive seen the worst happen more than once.
