OP, based on the prior replies, my opinion is surely in the minority, if not on the fringe. First, these folks are car dealers, and warrant low expectations from consumers. Second, you are buying a 4Runner, not your fifth Mercedes S Class in as many years. I see no reason to expect much in the way of good will or exceptional discounting in your transaction.
Like you, I have bought many cars from dealers over the years. I have not found any reason to stay loyal to a single one of them. My primary objectives in a vehicle purchase are to: 1) get a vehicle that pretty closely matches my criteria; 2) minimize the vehicle cost; 3) minimize my time spent on the transaction; and 4) minimize the extent to which my personal convenience is compromised by the transaction.
If the 2015 rig they have offered is a good deal, why not just buy it for a measly $200 more, as long as you have the deal in writing and have a reasonable expectation you are not going to get strung along. You will certainly spend more time, may spend more money, and may end up even more inconvenienced by going elsewhere. It's just business for the dealer. Make it just business for you, and get on to the next thing, like mods!
Best of luck - Mawgie
p.s. I bought my used 2013 T4R at a dealership I walked out of two years ago after they "insulted me" on a trade offer. (I went elsewhere and traded the car at a price that met my criteria.) This year, I went back to the dealer I had walked out of with low expectations, because I liked the used T4R they had. I dealt with exactly the same guy on my trade. He did not remember me or how poorly things went the last time I was at the dealership. This time, I ended up getting more than I hoped for on my trade, paid an acceptable price for my T4R, and it all went down less than 15 miles from my house. Total elapsed time from walking into dealership to driving home in T4R with new plates was 7 hours.
