Dealer valet shifted into low range without trans in neutral

I'd like to work at a dealer that had a hill big enough to need 4LO.
That's brutal. My mom brought her Honda Pilot in to the dealer for a routine oil change. She gets home and then notices a pool of oil forming under it. I get under there and have a look and find that they cross threaded the drain plug. I guess when it's not your own cars oil pan, it's easy to not give a ****...

You need to head straight back to the dealership as soon as possible. You need to describe what you found yesterday and now your transfer case is making a noise it wasn't before
if they dealer brushes you off ask to speak to the Service manager and then GSM. If you have to call the Toyota 1-800 number call them and explain the dealer hasn't helped you from a problem they caused.

I mean to say I did take it to the dealer and they told me it's normal.

Pretty sure its not supposed to be making any noise... Tell them you want it on the record you are investigating this.
No I have never heard this noise. They made a writeup in their system and gave me a copy.

how do you know he shifted it without being in neutral? did you watch him do it?
honestly, I think you are overreacting. very likely any sound you are hearing was either there before, or you are fabricating it in your mind, because you think something is wrong.
is it a manual, or auto? either way, shifting into low will produce a bit of grinding if done incorrectly. speed really being the major factor in how much grinding, and thus any damage being done as a result.
though I suspect you could grind it until there are no teeth left, and it still wouldn't cause a noise when driving...

oh wait we screw up our own stuff too. Regardless like others said you need to go back to the dealership and make sure they make it right. Keep going higher if your not satisfied.

My T-case, when in low range, adds an extremely faint whirring noise to the overall running noise of the truck. Let me emphasize that it is extremely faint. The noise becomes a little easier to hear if you get the speed up, say, to 25 MPH in Low/4th gear.
I've never operated low range in a noisy city environment, but I doubt that it is audible on a busy, noisy city street.
