Took the truck into service today and get a call back saying the exhaust manifold is cracked on left side, front calipers rusted and seized, and both CV boots torn with grease everywhere! Can't wait to see what the estimate is when I pick it up-NOT!

Never hurts to ask to see these issues with your own two eyes, unless you really trust this place.

Take it to your own trusted mechanic. A lot of previous cars were serviced at the dealership, but fixing things like that, the vehicles were taken to our trusted mechanic. If parts really needed replacing, OEM parts were ordered and installed.

took it to the local mechanic who confirmed the seized calipers- he said they were toast and replaced with OEM calipers and new pads along with fixing exhaust leak (new donut and springs) cost 500 bucks total. mechanic said wait till the boots start to give you problems, sometimes it takes years he said. I didn't want to tell him about cracked manifold cause I need an inspection sticker!

I personally would replace the CV boots. I would hate to get salt/dirt in those joints and have to replace the whole thing. But I suppose if your having it done then the price/cost factor isn't that much difference. I think new axles range from 50-200 bucks each depending on who is making them. Can get new boots for 20-50 bucks for oem. If your doing it yourself it would be half the cost.
