debating on 2004 4runner

hey all... i've found a 2004 sr5 that i really like - but the 4runner is teetering 109k miles. we had a '97 4runner several years ago and it was awesome... only thing we really had to do was change spark plug wires when they went bad and normal maint. we test drove the 04 vehicle last weekend and i fell in love... it's at a decent price, but i dont know how i feel about getting a vehicle that already has almost 109k miles on it.

opinions? any issues any of you all have had at this mileage point? any input is appreciated!

I traded a 2010 Tundra Rock Warrior with 5k miles for my 03 SR5 V8 with 108k miles.

NO qualms about it, buy it if you like it and the price is right!

I know different Gen but I bought my 96 3rd gen w/ 102K miles on it back in 03, which made it 7yrs old at the time (almost same situation as this just with a newer truck). Drove it another 6.5 years and another 60K miles before I sold it. Most reliable vehicle I ever owned. For the right price I wouldn't think twice.

Depends on how many miles you drive a year, how many years you plan to own it. Would you be confident driving a high mileage car ? I'd spend a little more for peace of mind.

The V8 likely will make 200k+. V6 has too short a history to judge.

If have a2004 V8 with 178K miles. If it is in really good condition, should go easily 200K miles. There are alot of high milage ones out there. The key is was it well care for.

I have 2006 V8 with 139k miles. Still it is on good condition and i think i will complete more than 180k miles with in year.

When I was shopping to replace my totalled XJ, I fell in love with 4th Gen's when I was talked into test driving an 04 SR5 with 250K miles. I could not believe my eyes.... It was mint! Drove like a brand new car! I would have taken it over the Xterra with 30K miles in a heartbeat. I knew I wouldn't pay $10k for a car with that many miles on it so I started searching for 4Runners within my price range.... I found an 03 Sport with 102K on it and fell in love. However, I couldn't get financing on it due to mileage being > 100K. I ended up finding my current SR5 for the same price with 60K on it. I would have bought the Sport if they would have come down another $1k on the price, but I am very happy with my SR5. It is identical to the Sport Edition, except for hoodscoop, darker interior and XREAS(which I would have removed anyways).

If you know 4Runners, you know 109K miles is nothing to worry about. Mine has 105K on it now, and still seems like a new car. (bought it almost 2 years ago)

not worried at all about driving a high mileage vehicle. i currently drive a 2002 saturn with 135k miles and it drives like its brand new.

I traded in my 2007 Xrunner for a SR54x4 with 101K

i was slightly worried about getting a higher mileage vehicle, but read through this forum and haven't thought twice about it since...:tongue:

I love my 4gen.

Yeah seriously 4Runners don't last long here in South Dakota my 04 SR5 sat on the lot for 2 days before it sold granted it was the only 4runner they had to include new 5th gens

is that a 6cyl or 8? the V6 has a timing chain, if the oil change has been on schedule you don't have to change it for 200k. if it's a V8, it has a timing belt, it's time for a new one, along with water pump.

we bought our 04 V6 in 2008, it had 123k on it. all I did was to swap out the suspension with an FJ set because I got them with a good deal.

Based on the fact Toyota discontinued the V8's starting with the 5th gen and has the V6 in more platforms than ever gives me the impression the V6 should last at least as long as the V8 and will have new parts in stock for quite a while. I don't think you could go wrong with either engine. My '04 has almost 100k miles on it and no leaks, compression is perfect in all cylinders...

I traded my 08 tacoma dc, offroad with 10,000mi. for my 07 t4r SR5 with 31,000mi. on it. I have been super happy with the 4runner and do not regret the swap at all.

Come buy my 04 Sport with 20k less miles with a V8 for $1000 more....Then I'll go get a 100 series Land Cruiser. I'm in Cincy.
