Hey guys, I want to remove the factory decals. I spent a few minutes with a heat gun and that didn't touch 'em. It will be a while before I paint so short going after it with sand paper, is there an easier way to get them off with out hosing up the paint?

Heat gun is the only way I know. You could maybe check at a body and paint supply shop to see if they've got a solvent that won't take away paint, but I doubt it...

go to autozone and they have decal remover. its in a can and has a black top on it. get at least 2 cans. it works GREAT! u have to do little sections at a time and time it just right but once you have the timing down its really easy.

get a plastic scraper, i used a bondo spreader and just scrape off the stickers. i did mine in about 3 hours by myself but it was so worth it. when you get it off there will still be lines but that is just the paint that didnt get bleached out by the sun. and wear a mask to, that stuff is narly but if you dont you get to see some pretty colors!

ive also seen ads for eraser things you put on a grinder and its suppost to take them off but ive never actually seen one work. the stuff i used is in a yellow, black and white can. good luck!

Why would you take those off?!?!?!? That is exactly how I want my rig to look when its done. Deal wise at least, that red and gold just screams of the 80s I love it

The Eraser wheels that you put in your drill work well. I used them in a Shop I used to work at. Use a plug in electric drill, and maybe buy 2 wheels if the graphics are stubborn. Oh, and don't forget to drink Beer while doing this, otherwise it won't work.

LOL... Dude I think they are ugly! Not to mention mine are in rough shape. My wife said the same thing tho... You would think I would like the red and gold. Im a die hard 49er fan. But I have never been much for graphics on any rig. I just wish I could get rid of red interior!

So I got a eraser wheel from NAPA. They also loaned me a tool to put the wheel on. Its basically a die grinder. It works like a champ. I ran out of time but I got all of the passenger side done. Still have about half of the driver side rear quarter panel to do and the hood. The wheel does a great job but it leaves a glue residue that I will have to work on. Probably gonna try the stuff Thrulo suggests.

Now I have a little problem with the hood. As you can see the driver side window squirter is smack dab in the middle of the gold paint/sticker that Im trying to remove. I did a little pushing and pulling from under the hood but cant seem to remove the squirter. Does anyone know how they come out? Im afraid Im gonna break it. What's the trick? I got a feeling they are not designed to come out? Anyway here is a couple pics, one from each side.

I got the rest of the stripes off the next day. Total time was about 3 hours. I ended up using 2 of the stripe off wheels from NAPA. The wheels were about 13 bucks a piece. They had a 40 dollar wheel made by 3M. Not sure if it would have been better, but I’m fairly happy with the way it came out.

There is some film underneath the stripes that didn’t come all the way off in some spots. On the sides, the top edge was really bad/hard and the wheel didn’t touch it. All the color came off though. The hood is the worst, didn’t get a good pic of it. I’m assuming the sun is what caused the stripes to get so bad. I now need to find some sort of adhesive remover. I tried Goo Be Gone, but it didn’t touch it.
