Grill Decision
Sac State: Pretty graphic. Yeah, I'm into the chrome, as is evidence by my bull-bar. I realize that the current tried is to go all black, but I still am into chrome. In that thread I linked to, there is a pic of the Shuei Grill painted black too, which I could decide to do later if I changed my mind.
My other option is the 2005 SR5 Chrome Grill that can be purchased from Steve Ganz of Carson Toyota for ~$138, before tax and shipping (but I could pick it up). Over 1/3 the price of the Shuei.

The '05 chrome stock grill is not bad for chrome. I don't care for the chrome/bling effect of the Shuei, etc.
On your other project of replacing the bumper strips with colored inserts, have you had any luck getting the insert off the back and front bumpers?
I would like to change both of mine to black to match my rig.

I've already got two "kids", one already in school (my girlfriend) and one wants to be a rebel (liking chrome and all) and really likes to spend my money.Sac State said:
No progress yet. I think I might purchase the rear piece for ~$60 so that I don't have to be without a bumper cover for a while and so that I can take it with me if I ever upgrade to a new V8 and 4WD. Haven't decided yet though. Steve Ganz is again looking into this one for me and exactly which piece I would need to accomplish this. The bumpers are slightly different on the different models and he is looking at this aspect of it too. BTW, I am a fan of the mono-tone too. I wish I could have both. The silver accents are what started me on the chrome kick. I could have probably been swayed either way, but I'm happy with my choice. Nope, I just inquired about the '05 SR5 instead on the hilux grill. Plus some site like partznet had a "metallic grill" listed that sparked my interest along these lines. However, they didn't return my email and I think it was probably the metallic silver accent paint anyway.Sac State said:

Thanks for the feedback. I hope others chime in with if they like that grill or not. It doesn't seem like that many do. That is a pretty high price to pay, especially if the popular opinion is pretty negative. I haven't forgotten about your Black emblem suggestion. After the last time you mentioned it, I added it to my to do list on the first page of this thread. BTW, have you tried on the mesh that I sent you yet? I agree with Cleric. I don't like both the look and the $$ on the Shuei grill. $138 sounds reasonable for an OEM grill replacement and it looks better to me(again.. personal taste).
I've been waiting patiently for Toyota to put out the black pearl emblems for the 4th gens, too.

Lux... I have to say I agree with Cleric. I'm not to fond of that Shuei grill. Besides... I think it would take away from the bull bar.
As far as the OEM 05' chrome grill... I thought about doing that.. but I decided against it... there's but so much chrome you can added to a Gray Truck before it goes over-board. It would definitely look nice on your Black truck.

Thanks for the input. You guys are actually helping me not spend money for a change! Do you think it is really any different on my black runner. I like the chrome on the black Armadas better than the grey......so maybe. I sent you a top secret email, so keep an eye out for that.Noloc said:

My ears were burning. I had removed all of my black Pearl badging as the adhesive was pulling away from the badges. They sat in my garage for about four months. Well, I bought some 3M adhesive last weekend and rebadged my truck with the black pearls. I left off the rear 'Toyota' emblem and replaced it with the 'i-ForceV8' that I had blackened. Hope my tape job holds up better than the tape job that came from the dealer.
I paid something like $160 for all the badges that were colored in the black pearl. These included:
1. V8 in grill
2. Circular Toyota corporate logo in grill
3. Sport Edition 4WD on both sides
4. Circular Toyota corporate logo on back vanity plate
5. 'Four runner' on back
6. i-Force V8 on back
In hindsight, I don't really like the black pearls with the black color they used. The pearl is very shiny and it almost looks like dirty chrome. I would have preferred a flat black matte color, not the shiny stuff.

Sac man, can we please see some pics of your badges? I am especially interested because you have a black runner too. I was thinking glossy, so I would like to see how that looks before you switch to matte. Especially the front and back roundish toy symbols.

advice on the trash bag...
i just got mine and wasn't too happy about it kinda dangling, until i realized how toyota actually designed the trash bag holder...
when the trash bag is under the trash bag plastic frame, push the frame down onto the trash bag and it will stay put.

Update: I tried out his suggestion and don't like how that works. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but for now, I'm sticking with the method I described previously. One thing to also note is that if you are seating 5 in the back the person has to stradle it. I finally made good use of it on a 1000-mile road trip over Thanksgiving and it was an extremely handy location.
Update: Apparently his email box is full because the email I sent bounced back. The phone # for the parts department is: 800-311-7250. And Todd Packer now works in the service department so the new person that would handle the black pearls is Cam (short for something) Garza, and he is on vacation until next week.
Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try it out the first chance I get. I think it was the Japanese instructions that threw me off. I'm pretty happy with the way that I strapped it, but if I didn't have to have that slight twist-offset, I would be even happier. So, I found the thread you started over at yota about the black pearls and was able to view the photo that TOR took of the emblems before shipping to you, which I am copying/cropping below for easy viewing. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see any of the pics that you put up there. Are they working for anyone else?Sac State said:

Coin & Pen Holders
Update: I did a little goggling and I think I found out that they might cost 250JPY = $2.37 US
This link has a link on the left that will take you to more pics of his interior. This guy added the same part # to his Toyota Noah. What is cool is there is another item that looks like a hook and one that looks like it would hold a pen! See the last couple pics I attached below. My interpretation of the part #s is:
Pen & Hook holder: 55539-37010-C0
Pen holder: 55539-52020-C0
Coin Holder: 55441-52040-C0
I'm a little skeptic if the "pen and hook" holder will fit. I found a closer up pic of it from this website and I am a little doubtful, but the other pen holder seems like it should work. It also looks like we might be able to get them in grey instead of black. Probably just a matter of varying the last two digits in the part #. This website is where the last pic comes from.

Carson Toyota, not Carlson Toyota (just correcting so no-one is searching for the wrong thing), have became extremely popular and are inundated with orders. I'm now having more trouble getting some answers. I have no doubt they'll get the answers, but I/we have to be patient I guess......which is against my nature......especially when I'm excited to get stuff. Steve realizes that he needs to get me these answers because it means business from all of you too, but right now they have hundreds and hundreds of "simple" orders they are trying to keep up with. They did tell me they are hiring more help. I'll be sure to let you guys know when I get any answers.
I was going to place one big order all at once with them, but since some of my last questions are taking so long, I think I am going to go ahead and place a smaller order.
