WOW! :biggrin2: I am totally surprised. Let me first say thank you for the honor. I truly mean it because I love this forum. Plus, there are so many sweet 4runners on T4R.ORG, that I didn't expect mine to get recognition. I especially can't believe it because I don't even have any real scenic pics of my ride. Speaking on which, the sloppy wet pic on the main page is sort of embarrassing. I just posted that photo because I was so excited about the T&H Bull Bar. Maybe I'll try to get some more scenic shots before the month is over.
Thanks for everyone's congrats and appreciation. I have spent a lot of time trying to make this thread useful, and I love to hear that it has helped. If you like it now, wait till you see it with the new hood scoop and the fender flares!

DIY Eyelids
A few weeks ago in a smoked taillight overlay thread we discussed buying material to do it ourselves. I ordered a free sample from one of the websites listed: www.tntsigns.com
I received the sample this morning at work, so I spent a slightly long lunch break trying it out. The material I got was not transparent, it was completely black. It didn't seem quite big enough to try out the shape of the JDM eyelid like j0mama or impulsebrklyn have. So, I just quickly wung-it to mainly try out the material.
I don't know if I like the look yet or not. I think I'll try out some larger eyelids. I sure hope this stuff comes off! It didn't feel that strong of an adhesive.......but it could easily be stuck there for good. Worse comes to worse, I'll get JDM Smoked headlights or eyelids. What do you guys think of the look?

nice job lux. i would say they need to be bigger....like the jaos ones. i was thinking of buying the vinyl, but they only sell in big rolls for like 60 bucks a roll on ebay. i think it'd be a waste to buy a whole roll. the only solution is to buy it and then split it with someone else. you want to split a roll of the vinyl with me?

Trance, how long is the roll? I'm sure if a bunch of us get in on it, we can all split it. Let me know what you think...
Or you can buy the whole role yourself and then sell 2 foot sections for some cash...

Vinyl Color Options
.....and here is the color options. I found the etched glass one to be interesting. BTW, the black looks perfectly the same as the factory.....but then again my ride is pretty dirty after my 1000 mile Thanksgiving weekend.

hey lux, congrats on 4rotm! glad to see that someone followed thru on the vinyl search. maybe you can just order a couple more samples under aliases and be done with the eyelids!

Both Eyelids Installed & Carbon Fiber Ordered
Glad to hear you can order the material by the yard. Turns out that by using the diagnol of the sample I had enough to create larger eyelids. I taped off the area last night (dark so no pics) and I wasn't as happy as with my first pair. Here are a couple pics with both eyelids installed. In the 2nd pic I wish I had shut that driver's door all the way.....it bugs me in the pic:
BTW, I ordered a 4" x 12" piece of black carbon fiber from www.mcmaster.com for less than $5 shipped and am going to try and find something to do with it. Maybe under the rear emblem or somewhere on the interior. Any ideas?

nice job lux. IMO, they still need to be bigger. as for the carbon fiber, just be careful not to over do it. it'll look tacky. then again, if you do only one piece, it'll look out of place. that's why i think i'll stay away from it.

Thanks for the advice Trance. I'm going to stick with the eyelids for now. So, McMaster is cool and the carbon fiber got here the next day after I ordered it. BUT, it looks and feels like a freakin sock! Not exactly what I was expecting.....and it had a $3 shipping charge that I missed. It is also thicker than the .0625" that was specified. I'm going to keep it around to see if there is anything I can do with it.......(probably not 4runner oriented). Here is a pic if anyone is curious:
