Decent Halogens for 97 headlamps

Upgrading to 99 headlights off rock auto.com for approx $30 and adding nice bulbs has a huge impact if it hasn’t been mentioned yet. Keeps you stock, adds a nice newer look and projects light much better!

Money well spent in my oppinion. Your figure of $1000 might be a bit high as I doubt if they had these available 20 years ago – they would have cost $50 then as well.

Regardless though, people often drop $300-500 on HID conversions. Will they last 20 years? I don't know, but if money is your primary concern then you could always stick with tried & true basic bulbs or whatever fits within your budget. $30 cheap ass Chinese LEDs on eBay should fit the bill if you don't mind being "that guy" and blinding everyone else with a wall of light.

Me personally, even at $1000 spread-out over the course of 20 years so that I can see well at night and not blind other drivers in the process – is money well spent.

Everyone's priorities & budgets are different.

Hee, hee, hee. Just bustin' yer balls! You were very calm in your response. I did try the high performance H4 bulbs in my motorcycle, but when they burned out in a little over a year, I gave up and went back to standard H4 bulb.eep:

Same dilemma for me. Headlights are dim with the oem bulbs. Wanted to upgrade to the 99-00 headlight assembly. My question is are the 99-00 headlights glass or plastic? They look plastic to me.

Rallypoint_1, they are Glass. rockauto.com has 99 headlights for cheaper then ANY the source. Well worth the upgrade... especially when mates with a nice halogen bulb.

I have been running the extreme white PIAA for almost 3 years now with no issues, but do wish I had better lights in the snow.
I don't do a lot of night driving, have disabled my DRL's .
If I need DRL's ( meaning not run headlights and just some light on the front for safety ) then I turn on my parking lights, they have been fitted with bright LED's and do a pretty decent job at acting like a DRL
I did not do a side by side comparison, but I bet my LED parking lights are as bright if not brighter then the stock DRL set up ( from memory)

I do the same and I agree. My LED marker lights are bright enough to act as a DRL.

I'm running the Osram night breakers and for halogens, they are awesome! I want to say they were only like 30 bucks for a set on Amazon.

Exactly what I just put into my updated headlights, and I am astounded by the light output. Take it from a guy who has done HID retrofits in the past, this combo would stand up to any HID retrofit I've done.

To be clear, the light color and the pattern are not on par with the HID projectors, but for pure downstream light output, I am ecstatic. And for <30 bucks, pretty hard to beat .

To help with lifespan, I disabled my Daytime Running Lights.

I use the Sylviana Silverstar Ultras.

I don't do that much night driving anyway, so I've had these for a little over 2 years now.

I will second these. Have been using them in conjunction with my 96 housings and upgraded wiring harness. They make a nice difference until I pony up for some newer clear housings.

I'm running new 99+ TYC housings with GE Nighthawk Sport bulbs both cheap off Amazon & much better than before. Our trucks really need more lighting though. If you dont have factory fogs the 4" PIAA fogs add ton's of extra light at night.

The Osram NightBreakers are the best halogens money can buy.
If you want the very best you can get from a halogen, throw in a relay harness to get the absolute most out of them. The '99+ headlights are also a must- they do make a noticeable difference.

LED's can't touch halogens yet. Guys will argue that, but that's cause they spent $300 on the PIAA LED's- or whatever they cost. The color is nice, but the output still just isn't great yet.

Of course, retrofits are nice too-
