Decisions, stay with 33 or go 35

OK, so hear me out. Here is my situation.

I currently have a 14 Limited that is on a toytec boss lift with SPC UCA. Offroad front and rear bumpers (so most liner is already hacked away or gone).
I purchased the vehicle and it came with 20" 18x9 Gear wheels with a +18 offset, and they also have 1.5" synergy spacers on it. Tires are Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/60/20 (33d 11w), still have a bunch of life. The wheels I dont really care for style wise, nor do I want 20's. I have 5 of these. They dont appear to rub at all. (havent been offroad, but normal driving they are fine)

I do not have the funds currently to spend on a new set of wheels and tires, nor do I have stocks to ride around on.

There is a guy wanting to trade me his 5 wheels and tires for mine. He has 18x9 with -12 offset, on 35x12.50 Nitto Trail graps (that are pretty much new).

I know i would actually come out ahead with value, but I will be faced with the issue of then needing a gearing (I dont care to be slow honestly, nor MPG...I dont drive much). I dont harcore offroad except maybe light trail or fire roads to go hunting now and then.

Would you trade knowing the issue of having 35's, or should I just keep my wheels and tires and be unhappy with 20's and the style??

I'd go with 35's but knowing you are going to have to do some work to make them fit.
 
i dont have 35s... but I dont think your fender liner is really your problem.

Cutting your bumper and plastic is easy peasy. Its the firewall/pinchweld, frame your going to run into issues with 35s and from what I have seen. Lots of cutting smashing. Also gearing i think will be bigger on your radar for things to do post installation then you think.

overall i dont think its as easy as o i had 33s an hour ago and now im on 35s. Decent amount of work needs to happen.

But thats my 2cents

question to be asked... why is the dude going away from 35s back to 33s knowing hes on the short side of the stick.....?

After speaking with the guy, he doesnt seem very knowledgeable about vehicles. The guy purchased a FJ and the wheels came with it. He wants bigger wheels. The tires he just put on it though.

If you barely offroad going to 35's is really dumb imo. Just spending money for the sake of spending money. Your talking about trying to retain value in your deal. What about cutting up your truck to make 35's fit, regearing, and MPG loss. Where does all that factor in your value keeping? There are no positives for you other then the way it looks. Sounds like your budget is limited and your looking for reasons to waste money.

20's are dumb but so are 18's. Smaller wheel is better for many reasons.

Get TRD OR wheel set for $300 get some 265/70/17 or 275 for around $500 and call it a day. But honestly if you can't afford wheels and tires why are you messing with brand new tires when you have rather good ones already? Sometimes it's important to take a step back and be thankful for what you have. Want vs need.

Not telling you how to spend your money but maybe use it for something that will impact yours or anothers life positively, instead of something you will just look at, pat yourself on the back one time, before the endorphins fizzle out and your back to being malcontent. Followed shortly by regret because now your truck drives like shit and you don't have the money to regear (and potentially cause more financial hardship).

Keep your current setup. Going 35s is not easy/cheap to do right.

I breezed through but stopped taking it seriously after you mention you don't offroad.

Fine your spending zero dollars. Still pointless and you won't be satisfied with that if you can't even be satisfied with 33"s. If you want to flex (*cough overcompensate*) that's your business.

BUT! Do whatever you want. It's your truck.
 
I'd say stay 33's and get some 17" rims when you can. 18" rims aren't really better than 20" from a tire availability standpoint let alone off roading stand point.
35's aren't easy or cheap to get to, and it goes beyond simply not rubbing. The extra weight causes regular maintenance issues to come around much more frequently.
33's are plenty enough rubber to do most anything a 4Runner can do

This right here is why you should NOT move to a 35... you don't need it, its completely overkill, and it adds a bunch of addition cost and complexity for something that produces almost zero benifit to you.

Have you had the chance to get this quoted by a reputable shop? It's a lot more expensive than most people think it is, at least to do it right.

I would expect see pricing in the 2-3k range for both front and rear and that's without lockers.
 
I'd find someone else that has 17" wheels to trade plus cash on their side to go towards new tires.

OR

Front the money and buy exactly what you want then flip the 20" wheels to make back.

Just my two cents. But if I had to choose between your two options. Just stick with your 20's/33" for now.

I have not, but being pretty mechanically inclined, I was looking at the option of sending my 3rd and clamshell in and having ECGS sent the prebuilt ones back.

I went this route. Ordered 4.56 from ECGS. They shipped built third and clam. Installed rear on a Friday evening and front on Saturday. Shipped my stock stuff back off on Monday. Got my core charge back. All in less than $2k including the gear fluid for multiple changes during break in.
