Dedicated build thread forum?

I don't know if that's necessarily a good way to do it. There are a few guys who have done a lot of great things, but don't have a lot of replies. Some of the better builds are towards the bottom, and may get buried. I think everyone has something to offer.

Without an almighty power to order this list for us, I chose to use the basic forum functions. How else can we organize them? Maybe just by alphabetical order?

I see how post counts can vary quickly and that would not be fun to update... IMO Alphabetically and/or by year is the only other way to go.

Example:

1999:
Build 1
build 2
etc

2000:
build 1
build 2
etc

So on, so forth... organizing each year could be by post count, view count, alphabetical, chronological by start date, etc... Hell, we could add additional labels, Base, SR5, Limited, Sport, Highlander, 2WD, 4WD... When I was 2WD, I would have LOVED a list of 2WD build threads by year. A lot of work needs to be done, but I'll happily help.

I just want to give the people what they're looking for. If I was a typical forum goer, I'd lose motivation trying to search through this many builds at once without at least some sort of organization.

/\ x2... By year would make it easy...then maybe by trim... That way new people would be able to find what they have and compare. Then they can waste time reading everyone else's.

Another question: The last section: Others (Minitrucks, Tacomas, Landcruisers, FJ's, etc)

Will this be extended to fit vehicles in the All Other Vehicles section? Or only Toyotas?

I think that's getting complicated enough that we'd be better served by a dedicated forum. Make it moderated, so that we could enforce specific thread titles and have the moderator include CoB's search terms in the titles? SR5, Highlander, Limited, N gen, SAS, etc? That way a user could use the advanced search by title in that particular forum and get what they need?

I'm not brandist, I've got no problem including Rovers or Fords or whatever. If somebody is brave enough to start a Jeep build thread here, I'll be happy to list it.

I'm adding and sorting links tonight, I had no idea how many damned build threads were out there (you 3rd gen guys need to slow the hell down!). There's lots of different ways I can sort these, from year to alphabetical to post count or whatever, I'd love more input on what you guys want to see.

I won't guarantee that I'll do it because I'm lazy :, but the input is welcome.

One thing I've thought about - I've never played much with the Tables function on vB. When I get a chance I'll mess around with that a bit, it would be cool if we could use Tables to basically insert something resembling a spreadsheet, so that the user could organize the list any way he wanted to (by Gen, then trim, then awd/v8, etc). Anybody know a good way to make that happen?

Ok, everything is as current as the info I've been given. I went ahead and used CoB's formatting for the 3rd gen list - that index is monstrous enough that I can definitely see the value in being able to sort by year or trim level or what have you. I haven't done that with the other gens yet because I don't think those indexes are so unwieldy as to require it - if anybody wants more info added to their index entry for easier searching (trim level, paint color, major mods like SAS or whatever) let me know.

I guess I ought to look at stickies more. Everybody has a build thread sticky but the Classics forum. We suck.

That's cause we too busy trying to keep our crap running from 1 week to the next. :wink2:
