Default Air Recirculation Mode

On my '03, the (cabin) air recirculation button is set at the default setting? Does anyone have this same condition or is it designed that way? Every time I start the car, the light is on, on the recirc button and in order to get fresh air into the cab, I've got to push the recirc button (light goes out). Stays that way until I turn the car off. Start it again, and the light is on once more. If this is designed this way, it really inhibits growth on the evap coils in the summer by not letting them dry completely. Anyone notice this?

Yes I think they're all the same. Pretty frustrating isn't it? GIVE ME CONTROL!
I think it's in the logic or circuit board; not sure if there is a work around (don't recall one anyway).

I think you mean promotes growth on the EVAP coils if you are trying to say it doesn't let the system "dry them out."

Also, is you temperature set to LO? I believe I read somewhere a while back that Recirculation defaults to On when temp is set to LO, I could be wrong... I only have two settings in my truck when I use it; Max A/C and OFF.

If you have the temperature set to "LO", then the recirc button will be on every time you start the truck. When you run the climate control on Auto and it is on a temperature other than LO, the recirc button will turn on and off as dictated by the climate system.

I love the auto climate control. Freaking love it. But...I do wish the recirculation mode would stay off unless I turn it on. I also wish the compressor would stay off until I turn it on too. In winter, I rarely need the compressor and it would save fuel.

I've just learnt to live with it. It's a stupid thing on a really good truck. It's defeatable if you dig into the wiring but more work.

Same issue.. It is quite annoying. You'd think after months (if not years) of it auto coming on you'd remember to push it whenever you start your rig .. But nope . I seems to always forget..

Could it be possible the auto closed dampers are causing mildew smell? Any way to keep the damper open when the car is off so it can air out?

If you're getting mildew smells it's possible you have a leak, if you have a sunroof, the drains tend to get clogged and some have the frame/seal areas get rusty to the point it leaks, if the windshield has ever been replaced and it wasn't done properly it can leak inside the A pillar, at least one person had a tiny rust hole in the cowl area that let water inside.

Pull back the front carpet after a good rain and if it's wet you have one of these leaks, most leaks come down the A pillar behind the trim and into the kick panels of either side then under the carpet.
