Definitive front O2 sensors 4th Gen V8 04 CA CARB Q?

Not another O2 sensor thread!

The question is simple, yet the answer is not.

When I got my 2004 4Runner V8 Limited 4th Gen 4.7L, I was specifically told the front O2 sensors were AFR/wideband O2 sensors because of the California standard, which my vehicle met.

Now that I am looking to replace them, I am seeing different info, including that the V6 has front AFRs but the V8 only has standard O2 sensors in the front

I also now see there is a 210 and a 215 body code for this year, with some differences in the parts used (ie different propeller shaft designs), according to parts diagrams I am finding on vendor sites???

So I need to know definitively, are the front O2 sensors AFR or O2 in this year? Is there any chance there are some V8s with AFRs? Anyone has some insight into the 210 vs 215 body code differences?

Finally, the dumb question is there isn't a possibility of substituting AFR where standard O2 sensor was in front, right? Long shot, but if later models had AFR, maybe the capability is built into the system?

I've had dealersntry to service the trans at the 30k interval and provide the wrong (non WS) fluid, too, so maybe the docs aren't quite clear?

OK, sorry for the noob questions, I just really need a good answer!

As far as I am aware, Toyota typically uses AFRs in the front on all of their California vehicles and some Federal Vehicles use O2 sensors.

Does your sticker under the hood say "meets California Emissions standards" or something similar? If not, its most likely federal. As for the body code; I am not entirely sure, that may be a differentiation between say Limited and Sport/SR5 as some Toyota literature references there being a minor difference.

I don't remember where I saw it, but when the first rear O2 sensor threw a code a few years back, the expensive part of the equation was since it was California emissions certified, it had to meet that standard to be inspected, even though it was much more rigorous than we have in PA.

I bypassed both rears with a simulator and made reasonable repairs.

I'll look in the am form the certification. I see I can use the VIN to determine if it is 210 or 215 body spec, so have to go get that, too.

Is there a way to tell if a sensor is O2 or AFR by looking at it?

I still have the code for Bank 1, Sensor 1 and an exhaust leak on the same (driver side).

Anyone have input on this O2 vs AFR conundrum? I see the V6 has AFR for 04, so maybe that is the source of the confusion?

I went to the denso sight to see if & what sensors for V8 , seems only called upstream & down & 2wheel & 4wd so you might look there 1st ?
