I wish it was that simple. In short we already do that. Baring anything one of my sales reps said or was miss spoken about. And yes we have meetings where they are scolded regularly about under promise over deliver. And for the most part the nail is hit on the head but the ones that fall through the cracks are the ones you hear about most often.
We generally get told from our laser cutter or any supplier a given time frame. If they tell us 4 weeks we double it at minim. We try to be as upfront as possible with people. Pepper in some re-works (because we want it right) and some mis-communication and we are here.
We just had a meeting this last week about this and we are going to implement a new system that in this industry at least may be come the norm for updating customers. Because it's not just us, we order parts from other vendors and we hear the same things. But we listen and the number one thing we hear is, "just tell us, just keep us in the know". Despite having call days "fridays" where my sales people try to get through their stack of invoices and update people, either the day gets away from them with day to day stuff or the info simply wasn't received. We are working on a system that will involve a simple updated text once a week on order status and help keep people in the loop.
It's a challenge, I know. Just don't want you guys getting beat up over a new product when I know you've come through on others.
And you didn't answer my question!
