I have been looking for rear bumpers for 4th gens and being as picky as I am was not really drawn to any of the available bumpers. I wrote Jason at Demello about possible interest and although he wasn't opposed to it, but he just said he hasn't had enough interest in the idea of one. So I was wondering how many people would be interested and purchase a Demello rear bumper if they started some R&D on it.

Letter from Jason:
Nick,

Thank you for the e-mail and the head expansion..:) We don't currently have
any plans for a production rear bumper for the 4th gen 4runner but we are
not against build one. We just need enough interest to dedicate the time to
building a prototype.

-Jason

Again any interest at all let me know here or feel free to email Demello as well with a similar question at [email protected].

Thanks and Cheers!

that would be awesome.. hopefully before i replace my busted one with another stock one.
crozhawk 's bumper is fantastic. They should make one that goes with the lines of the truck like his does

I am actually still shopping for a rear bumper and talking to a couple of people in regards to works in progress before I commit. So I'd love to see what Demello can offer.

I'm personally looking for something low profile like 4X4Labs first bumper design. CBI bumpers are a little too bulky for me.

Extremely happy with my front bumper from them so naturally I'd pick their rear bumper over a CBI if they made one.

Is this the 4x4Labs bumper?

I like the CBI rear bumper style:

and would like to see something along those lines, but with the tapered edges and slimmer profile displayed in DeMello's works.

HB 4X4 My mistake. While I'm sure the 4x4 Labs bumper is perfectly solid, I'd rather have a plated bumper that follows the body lines as wvuviv30 was describing.

jdemello hey Jason I'm sure you'll develop the prototype on your own 4runner but if you need a spare I'd be happy to volunteer. Also, looking forward to that front bumper!

Check out the rear bumps at Relentless Fabrication, Tactical Armor and CBI. I think you'll find what your looking for.

Have contacted Relentless as well, and they said they have one in the works and have built a couple, but before he starts mass producing them he wants to fine tune them. As for Tactical Armor Group(T.A.G.) I don't really trust them as it is a rebranded name formerly known as Kenesawits Mountain(Here's just one thread. .Tactical Armor Group-Formerly KMA, ANYONE??? - JeepForum.com) as the first company went under and I have heard nothing but negative reviews in doing business with them, and as I stated CBI just doesn't really do it for me. They are the only one on the market really with one stout enough, and I was hoping to get DeMello in this niche market that doesn't have a lot of vendors.

I'm local to Relentless Fab, and am dropping off my '08 4Runner in a couple weeks for them to install front & rear aluminum bumpers. I stopped by their shop awhile back to talk with the owner and check it out -- build quality (on the other bumpers in the shop) looks fantastic. The bumpers are CAD-designed, welds are nice and clean.

I'm interested in the aluminum bumpers because they're lighter, and out of rust concerns -- I drive a lot in salty winter conditions (skiing).

I'll post pics after the bumpers are done. Plan for now is to coat them in spray-can bedliner; cheap, easy to touch up, and hopefully reasonably durable.

Yeah the guy sounds great at Relentless Fab who I talked with. Just don't know how I feel about the pre-runner tubed look on their front bumpers. I totally understand your argument for aluminum, but I have stiffened springs in the rear to handle extra weight and I like the security for off-roading or the urban jungle(getting rear ended) and have a steel plated bumper instead of aluminum. Definitely would love to see how yours turns out though!

olsen_karl I'd also love to see what Relentless came up with, from what I hear they make great products.

The aluminum rear bumpers I've seen don't allow for a rear tire carrier/jerry can brackets, not sure if that's the case with the Relentless as well.

More options for a rear bumper+tire carrier are definitely needed for the 4th gen, as CBI has the only product available in the market.
