Dension Ice Link & the Ipod!

you guys think that this will work with the 06 scion HU? Is it the same model? Im bidding the scion HU on eBay and just realized it doenst have the cassette for my cassette adapter... o well, that thing is horrible quality anyway.

I checked the manual that came with the Ice>Link Plus and it says it is compatible with 06 Scion. You might want to call Dension directly for a more definite answer.

Can we get some pics of the mounting options you guys used? I've got a general idea of the cradle from this site: http://www.densionusa.com/icelink_info_toy.htm

But I want to see how you 4runner owners mounted it.

Also how do you navigate from the steering wheel controls? Does pushing Next go to the next song? What about holding down next? Does that make it go to the next play list? Is there a limit of playlists you can have? Do the playlists have to be named something specific.

I zip tied mine to the bunch of wires and ran the dock cable into the storge bin below the AC controls. The bin is too small for anything else any ways.

Ahh fantastic, that is exactly what I thought about doing. I take it the IPOD fits in that cubby hole with that ongodly ugly dension cradle?

Can you take a pic of it in the cubby hole?

I have the ipod in the glove box to keep it hidden from view.

There was just enough cable to put the icelink adapter itself tucked behind the glove box. That gives me easier access to it in case I need to uplug it or the docking cable.

Dension offers two differant ways to connect the ipod a cradle and just a plain dock cable. For a hidden install get the dock cable. I will try and get a picture posted of the cubby hole later.

I'm so excited! I have a 2005 4Runner Sport Edition with the JBL 10 speaker, single disc stereo. From what I'm reading, the Dension product will work with this, including text display and steering control. Two things I'm concerned with: mounting and if i can do this myself. I love my 4Runner and cars, but I never work on cars. Is this something I can do? If so, can someone kinda help me with it? I'd also love to see some pics of mounting. I also went to bestbuy.com and only saw this product for bmw, honda and volkswagon. Any reason?

This is apparently a new product for the Toyos so it may not be in stock at the local stores yet, but members have already called Dension directly and bought it from them.

As long as you follow the instructions it is a piece of cake. Its so easy, I've got it memorized now.

I've got my Ipod stashed away in the center console. This does require drilling a little hole to get the adapter wire through...but very easy to do. I decided to go with the center console instead of the glove box because it's easier for me to reach in case I need to access the Ipod for any reason.
Sharp4Runr-I don't know if anyone has answered your questions? If not i'll try to as best I can.
Steering wheel controls adjusts volume and next or previous song. If you hold down NEXT it will advance to the next playlist. You are limited to 5 playlists because "playlist 6" puts the unit onto the menu/options page. Playlists do not need to be named anything specific.

Does anyone have any issues with it so far with the 2005 JBL 10-speaker, single disc?

For me, half the time when I crank my 4runner it works fine. The other half the radio either fails to switch to CD1 or else the time counter reads 0:00 and doesn't play. Turning the ignition off & back on seems to reset it & get it working again.

I've already reported it to Dension. Impressvie that they replied the same day. They said to check back in a few weeks and see if they have a firmware update.

Mcbean, thanks for the response. I hope they increase the playlist count in new firmware and fix the bug that mostejo mentioned.

I could be wrong, but the 6 playlists may be a limitation of the factory stereo, since the icecast is trying to emulate an external 6 disc changer.

If you switch to playlist 6 to access the menu/options UI on the ipod, there are a few options where you can select other playlists. You can also switch the control back to the iPod's standard UI and use that to change playlists/songs.

Mostejo - that makes perfect sense. The only reason I ask, there is another device that the NAV guys are looking at that gives them the same capabilities, though it has the ability to have 99 playlists.

Now is there any limit of the number of songs that the Ice Link can have on each playlist?

I haven't seen a limit with songs. After 99, it just wraps to show "0" for song 100, "1" for 101, etc.

More than 6 playlists would be nice. I don't have a NAV so I not sure if mine could support it. Haven't found any detailed specs on my stereo so far.

Probably wouldn't hurt for us to suggest it to Dension. They already have one or two compatibility options in the settings menu.

I have a 2003 4 runner with NAV. Does the Dension Ice work with it? I already tried many options, like the Monster IPOD system, it worked but not too well (slow, ipod reboot, etc). I want to try a good solution, and want to know if this would work.

its just a round chunk of plastic in the shape of the bottom of a cup, there is no reason it wouldnt fit.
it may look funny in those huge ass cupholders we got tho.

Anyone from Canada trying to order off the Dension web site, take my advise. Don't! It says they ship to Canada ($20 shipping). After trying and getting an authorization error on the web site and contacting their tech support, I decided to call my credit card company. They said my credit card was charged 6 times already. Then called Dension and after some figuring, they said they don't ship to Canada. ???

We'll see what gets charged to my card in the next couple of days. Have to wait for it to come to Best Buy I guess.

Enough complaining. Anyone actually have an iPod Nano attached to the Ice-Link yet? I know it has the same connector and it should work, but I would appreciate hearing someone's experience.

edz9876 - I've got a Nano attached to the factory JBL Synthesis 10 speaker setup with in dash 6 disc changer and it works great...no complaints. Let me know if you need details or have specific questions.
