So i just recently in the past year became an owner of 2008 4runner and I realized due to my reading in this forum of how easy it can be to do routine maintenance at home and save money. My last maint involved installing new denso iridium power plugs IKH20 and removing the previous denso iridium long life plugs SK20R11. Since then I feel that instead of any sort of positive in mpg it has actually dropped by 1-2mpg. Before I averaged 20 and now it's 17-18mpg. Anyone else have this problem? I know its getting colder here in TN and it can affect your mpg but I don't feel like it should change this much, it's only in the 40's. I also don't drive any different, mostly interstate and some in town driving. Should I go back to the long life plugs?

There are two things I stick with OEM parts on. It is brake pads and plugs. It is possible that your plugs are the cause in your drop, but since you stuck with Denso it is not as likely. My guess would be the time of year. You mileage will always drop in the winter. You could always put your old ones back in and see what happens since it is pretty easy. I would probably do that anyway and even if there is no change in your mileage there is no reason to swap your plugs until you need it, and just leave the new ones in your tool box. Who knows, in 3 years they might be $20 a plug and you will have saved money.
I've yet to see the plug that will INCREASE gas mileage. Some make the claim..but it's NOT true. Platinum or iridium have advantages in that they last longer....PERIOD.
I agree with Sungod..it's probably due to the winter gas formula. Gas stations in NH usually have the winter gas from November thru April.
