Denso MAF part number confusion

'99 V6 4WD, automatic, federal emissions.

Not 100% sure yet, but may need new MAF and I'm checking prices.
Can't confirm the correct Denso part number, anybody know it for sure?

Part number listed on MAF on vehicle now (original) is 22204-07010.
When I search that number on the Camelback website, it shows replacement part number of 22204-21010 at $135.

On densoproducts.com, a search for 22204-21010 results in Denso part number 197-6020, but clicking on the "fitment' tab only shows that part number working for the Tacoma. Also, Amazon and Autozone say that 197-6020 does NOT fit my vehicle, and Rockauto only shows it working on 2000-2002.

When I go to the official Denso website and use the "Find My Part" feature, the result is "No Mass Air Flow Sensors results. We may not make this part for this application".

Go to camelback, enter your vehicles vin. Once you do that those parts will 99% fit your vehicle. 1% human error. For something like this I would hit up the junk yard.

Understood - and thanks - but that doesn't help me confirm the Denso part number, which if correct I can get for around $75.

I used the 21010 number for mine, non California 4runner. No problems in two years. I don't believe the numbers were the same as the original one.

The denso part# your looking for at that price is not a genuine Denso/OEM part. The denso part from toyota is OEM quality. The denso's you buy from parts stores are actually manufactured by 3rd party crap parts companies and then they put it in a Denso box. Sometimes when buying the denso part there will be a warning saying they are not denso parts but just rebranded. They are not the same quality.

Also Denso is now in a lawsuit I believe for price setting/gouging. I would not put it past them rebranding parts. Major issue now with all the china knock offs.

The only way to be sure is to look at where your MAF is located. If you have the one that can be removed with screws, you are in luck and can get one for about $125 new OEM. The other one looks like a pipe with the sensor built inside.

This one is around $750 new OEM. You would have to buy one used for about $100. Luckily, these are pretty common since the older Camrys have them. These were on the 96-98 4runners and depending on what manufacture date on your 99, it could go either way.

Do you have a hard source for this or is this dealer FUD? Link? I have been buying Denso aftermarket parts for at least ten years and not one of them has failed and they all looked perfectly original. I have more miles on the Denso A/F sensor (95k) than I got on the factory one that died at 85k.

In any case, I will keep buying the Denso parts until I have an issue. I'm already way ahead enough to pay for a second part if it ever happens. Dealer prices are outrageous.

That warning says that not all parts are manufactured by Denso. Denso is a partial subsidiary of Toyota. It would not surprise me if they outsourced factory components as well. But I'm willing to bet that rarely applies where Denso is OEM supplier of the part in the first place. It would not make any sense to keep manufacturing for Toyota and outsource their aftermarket line. I can't imagine how that is cost effective. That warning doesn't bother me.

FWIW I installed the one you're looking at in my 01, not sure about a 99. Paid $72 and change from Rock Auto. Works fine.

Just don't strip out the screws if this is the one you have.

That's the one I'm looking at, just trying to make sure I'm getting the correct one if/when I need it. I have a can of the CRC cleaner, gonna try that first to see if it resolves my issue. I called densoparts.com and they are supposed to contact Denso to confirm and get back to me.

Well lucky for you there are only 2 choices, the old style or the new style. There are no other variations between the two. So even if there are inconsistencies in terms of information you just have to look at what you have and just get that version. Hopeully you have the newer version.

Knowing which one I have isn't the issue - I have the newer style - it's finding the Denso equivalent part number.

That's the one I think is correct, but having trouble confirming it. Haven't been able to find a single site that sells them where it is confirmed to fit my year/model, or any posts on here where someone has for sure had it work in theirs.

Base it off a 2000 and it gaves you the same number on the Denso website 197-6020. Which is definitely the part you need. The reason you are not getting a definitive answer is because of the change happened during the 99 models.

Well, that's just not the case with the parts for Toyota I have been using. Was Denso OEM for those Mitsu parts? In any case, you have not convinced me. Forgive me, but I trust my experience on Toyotas more than yours on Mitsubishis, absent any other evidence. Those Amazon Denso parts all get great reviews, so I'm not alone.
