Finally did my fire extinguisher mount in the rear cargo area:

I thought the location was perfect within the indent of the molded plastic wheel well cover but I also didn't want to drill holes through it. So I just used 1-inch wide strips of 3M double sided tape; covered the entire backing of the mounting bracket and held in place for a couple of minutes. It is solid and not moving, but can remove or relocate if needed. Just make sure you clean the plastic well beforehand and wipe down with alcohol before applying the 3M tape.
I also didn't want too large of a fire extinguisher to save space and weight, so I opted for the smaller 1-lb dry chemical extinguisher. It is a MAXOUT with chrome finish.

How much does it weigh? Consider it becoming a missile in the event of a crash.

I agree, but the unit weighs less than 16 ounces, is secured with a metal strap, and trying to remove the bracket actually lifts the molded interior piece; it is very secure and a great way to try out a location. Even so, I would not mount it this way if one opted for the larger and much heavier units.
EDIT: if you know that would the final location, you can also simply drill two small holes into the plastic through the bracket holes and secure with self tapping or thread forming screws. I am thinking this might be where I want it mounted permanently but been waiting to see if I run into issues when loading up the cargo area with gear and such. If so, I also thought about moving it up into the tray on top of the wheel well cover as this fire extinguisher unit will lay flat inside of there and can tape/screw the mounting bracket in place.

I ended up sticking my fire extinguisher in that really odd cargo cubby on the other side. I wrapped it in a towel so it won't bang around.
Not a lot you can stick in there but the extinguisher fit pretty good!

I have a plastic "jar" of bungees in there, before that, a roll of paper towels. It is an odd little space...:vader:

hehe...well, I actually did not show all of my trucks nor all the cars I had too (I could go on about my other Jeeps, Corvettes, BMWs, Minis, and so forth...lol); but these are the ones that sort of eventually inspired me towards the 4Runner (interesting that I tried the SUV route before and/or gave my trucks some SUV look/functionality) which is why I selected to show these. I think the 4Runner is the evolution in size, style, function, and all around capability that I have been searching for, hence my favorite!

Desert Dawg - Really love what you did to your rig! Outstanding man. I'd like to do the same roof rack, ladder and LED's. What would you charge me to fab some brackets as you did for your lights so that it'd be bolt-on ready? Possible?
