what is the necessity for the body mount chop and frame rebox? Sorry nubie here!

Thanks for the compliment; a lot of folks cut the exposed body mount to fit larger tires and then rebox the frame to retain its integrity and provide a clean look.

DD - do you have the LR UCA torque numbers - I also have the BOSS system w/ the LR UCAs and will be installing this Saturday - only thing I'm missing are these numbers - thanks

Hey Ragin...I don't have the exact numbers as the instructions only indicate to torque the control arm to the manufacturer's specification and that the castle nut for the balljoint stud is torqued to 45 ft-lb and then tightened further as needed in order to line up for the cotter pin. If I think of it, I can call Desert Rat to see if they recall the torque specs. You can also call the Specialty Products (Light Racing) technical support line: 1-800-525-6505.

Finally got my TRD decal installed....straight...lol.

My brother came into town from Dallas, so we decided to take our rigs over to the Rio Puerco River area west of town and get some desert wheeling in while he was here. First we came across this "little" guy taking his time crossing the dirt road.

Before we started, we got warmed up with some dune runs.

We then headed out towards the Rio Puerco. Storm clouds were brewing so we weren't going to make it all the way to the river, but we did hit the other dunes before turning back around.

We ran into this guy with a lifted F150 who almost made up the hill, but the truck was too heavy for the deep, loose sand (plus he had 20-inch wheels with 35s). At first, I thought he would just need a quick tug out so I hooked up my strap, but the little 4Runner couldn't budge it. So I had him deflate all his tires and he walked the big rig right back down the hill.

I'm the guy with the green "Breaking Bad" t-shirt...lol.





So with the good deed done, we went on our way to the top of the dunes...

It was a blast and could have stayed longer but looked like rain was coming and didn't want to risk getting caught up in it.

haha....I have to admit that I like the look of running with the lights...lol. Why have them if you never turn them on. :biggrin2:

But the lights really help with safety too for others; a guy riding around in a Razor said he saw us from further up because of the lights. The pictures don't show it, but there are lots of hills, curves, and blindspots but the lights help other Jeeps, bikes, and such out there see us a little sooner. I experienced the same on the dunes with some nicely outfitted Jeeps and Razors running LED lightbars.

You have such an amazing looking rig DD! That terrain looks so good too and I'd love to check that place out someday. Man, that looks fun!

Ironically, I too, had a brother come in from Dallas when we took our initial 4runner trip 2 weeks ago.

Love your pics as well... they always show off both the truck and terrain in a complimentary way.

Finally, thank you for your great advice and input on the ST/Maxx's. They are exactly as you described. I also appreciate your great explanation of your past tires and your hunt for a new tire. This helped me a lot as I was on the fence of purchasing some of the same past tire choices and so I gave the Cooper a shot. So far, so good!

Yeah, the Rio Puerco is quite popular with the off-road crowd. About the only negative is that is sometimes overtaken by obnoxiously large groups of motorcrossers, but we lucked out and had only a few and they were nice (with exception of one incident). But its a great place with lots of trails and sand dunes.

Really glad you are liking the Coopers thus far; I am not sure why I had not tried them before this but I really like them.

Forgot: I just love the way that your light bar reflects in the hood! So sweet!

I think it looks pretty neat too with no glare back at me.
