Detailing Clay Question

I am planning on detailing my 04 4runner with a clay bar this weekend, but the bar that i got seems to be very sticky. Just wondering if thats ok or if i should look for a different brand. It's purple if that means anything..

the clay bars i've used in the past have always been sticky. just make sure it isn't dirty, and to use lots of lubricant. it should have come in a kit. if it didn't, use some quick detailer. not good using dry clay on paint.

all the ones i have used have been by "mother's" and is yellow in color.

i have also used soap and water for the lubricant.

a lot....

wash, cleaner wax, spray down, clay, wash, polish wax and yellow wax.

It should be sticky to collect all the stuff it pulls from the surface. Be sure to knead it periodically, and, above all, don't drop it on the ground or floor!!

Mole177 is right -- use lots of lubricant.

usually i just use a wet rag and wipe the area i want to clay. then i clay for lubricating. which it will be moist enough to be clay rather than sticking to your car. this is the only way i found that would be easier for me but man, dust sure comes back pretty fast. i wonder why i get dust soo much.

don't drop it on the ground or floor!!

More true words have never been spoken, if it drops onto the ground, throw it away! I use a spray bottle with a mixture of water and carwash concentrate. BUT, I also work over a towel. That way, if I do drop it, it falls onto the towel and won't pick up any dirt.

I use Zaino products, their final step is an anti-static spray so you don't get as much dust accumulating back on the vehicle when you're done. Its made a big difference on my vehicles.

i just cut it into pieces, and use a piece at a time. get more uses out of the bar, and if i do drop the piece, i didn't lose the whole bar. at at about $20 a kit, not the thing i'd want to lose.
