Did a bunch of work to the T4R, still have a leak...

Hey guys,

So, after doing a bunch of work on the 4Runner this weekend, I found this hanging near the oil pan:

First of all, what is that tube and where does it go? I'm also noticing a bunch of fresh oil around the oil pan gasket. If I had a bad engine crank seal, would that be result of all of the oil or would it just be because I have a weak seal on the oil pan gasket...or both?

Crank seal can have that effect depending on how bad it is. Hopefully your oil pan doesn't have a gasket. Our 4 cylinders just have Toyota RTV. I don't know why cork gaskets are even made for this motor, but mines got one too unfortunately (stupid previous mechanic).

The crank seal went alongside the rear main on my truck. Hopefully yours is okay.

I can't really see your mystery plug there.

Good call. I've got a new crank seal on stand-by. How difficult is it to change out? From what I've researched, it's a PIA.

I actually DID buy a oil pan gasket from partsgeek.com, before researching and finding out that the only way to reseal an oil pan gasket is by using RTV. Too bad the dealership charges an arm and a leg for it.
 
i think its part of the emission system. it makes the famous "buzzz" after your cars been shut off for a few hours.
 
EVAP canister... holds fuel vapors inside the system while the truck is off, instead of letting them out into the atmosphere (your garage, etc)

That particular hose, idk without looking around
 
That plug goes connected to the chassis, yes the chassis. Just took 2 pics from my 4Runner. Check them out.

Regarding that oil mess, happened to me it was the 2 seals that go behind the heads. Each head has one round rubber coated metal seal just behind each one, you will only be able to see them by means of a mirror as they are very close to the firewall. Maybe heads covers gaskets need to be replaced as well.

...and this is not what I wanted to hear.:dammit: I think it's all p/s fluid. Don't have to mess with the oil...yet.

Well, that's what I can see. Didn't try to take it out to see how it is kept in place, don't wanna end up breaking something. Is located right in front of the manifold, too much heat, parts get brittle, you know. :nono:

Seems that is just a matter of getting it properly aligned in front of the orifice, and then push it gently.
