Did my wheels and ditched the running boards...want some thoughts

I finally gave up on the idea of getting a set of SE rims for a decent price so I painted my current ones black. I also decided to lose the running boards at the same time. I think I like the look of my truck without them on but I am actually torn because it also looks good with them still on. What do you guys personally think with my T4R?

Looks good. I've thought about powercoating my wheels to a dark matte black finish, but what I would really love to finish that look off is to find a set of BLACK lugnuts.

Looks good, i had mine powdercoated matte black for around 50 bucks/wheel
I falso have a set of new running boards...you can have them if you can figure out a way to get them shipped from Montana.

Back on topic, Im a fan of the chrome lug nuts and taking out the chrome toyota emblem from the center cap and putting it back in after you paint the center cap black.

i painted my center caps flat black as they are plastic and couldn't be powder coated. The toyota emblem on mine wasn't removable...just one piece of molded plastic. I also painted the rear license plate garnish and the front grille crossmember flat black. The wheels look really good IMO w/ the additional flat black accents.

Yes you can have them, they are just taking up space in my garage. Would imagine shipping would be a bit pricey

You should paint your roof rack black also and get you a black bugshield to even the colors...it looks good tho'' you did a good job

Thanks for the comments guys! I do agree about the black accents, I am (eventually) planning on getting some stuff to help it out...I really wanna get a set of black headlights, tint the windows more, get a bug shield, possibly get some black pearl emblems, and get a set of black lug nuts. Unfortunately this all has to come after my lift, exhaust, Sport Hood and HIDs Sometimes I actually wish I had gotten a SE with the cladding, I think that would look cool.

I would sell my running boards but I tend to keep everything I take off for that what if situation, and I'd probably wanna put them back on whenever I decide to sell the truck.

how did you paint the rims? did you rattle can them or have it done the right way? they look good a but just a bit shiny for my likings. i prefer the look of <b>montanaT4R</b> set up that matted black looks clean. im on the fence if i want to do mine or not.

I think the chrome lugnuts and emblem would tie it back to your ride. Plus when it's all black it almost looks like you're riding on nothingness, which would immediately make me think your 4r is haunted. (Note: This may be what you're going for.)

All told, I like it though!

I like the running boards because not only are they functional, but without them, it shows the dirty underside too much (looks unfinished). Only the lifted, gruffer looking 4Runners can pull off the no running boards look in my eyes.

I powder coated my wheels in a glossy finish. Painted wheels will quickly show wear. My center Toyota emblems were painted, I believe.

I am actually trading my tube steps and roof rack for your type of running boards and roof rack. I plan to tint the front windows, paint the rims black and I really want to black out the emblems. I will leave the Toyota centers chrome though.

Did you take yours off or did you paint them?

Would I just spray paint them black?

how good does it stick? id be afraid of the paint not sticking well or peeling down the road?

Well each time I have followed the instructions of the video on youtube and I used specific wheel paint. They have never peeled at all, very rarely I will get a small chip and I can just touch it up and everything is good again. I have been extremely happy with the results
